The two-DVD install, 28 GB used, framerate cap etc. all indicate lazy coding anyway. To design a good-looking game with lots of destructible elements is fine, but a good game i.e nice gameplay requires a little more than that. The implementation of Havok in their custom engine was so half-assed that even the awfully low max fps is not enough to avoid terrible performance with frequent framerate drops.

Yeah it seems the game is capped at 30fps, regardless of vsync.

My guess would be that it's a limit imposed by how they integrated the various physics/materials simulation middleware with the rendering engine (e.g. they may only resolve interactions at 30Hz). Well, either that or it simply just is a result of their lazy port.

---

Aspyr support is completely useless as always. There's a bug with music on 5.1 speaker setups, where music only plays in one speaker, despite sound effects being appropriately positional and playing in all 5 speakers. They gave me the old "we can't duplicate, it must be your system" that they pulled with Dark Sector widescreen support requests. I posted a snarky video to YouTube demonstrating the issue, forwarded it to every contact email available for the company, and suddenly they said they could now duplicate the problem and that they'd forward it to the dev team (though I suspect this was only to shut me up) - but even then they said it probably wouldn't be fixed because it wasn't a game crippling flaw

I'm kind of upset with myself that I actually bought this game at MSRP (and thus supported this crappy company), but I'm too much of a sucker for anything Star Wars.

Aspyr really is terrible. I was hoping when they got the contract for this game they would have put a little more effort in, since it is a relatively high profile game, but no... seems like they didn't.

Of course judging by my forums no one bought the dang thing, so perhaps it wasn't that high profile after all.

Heh same here. Among the very few people I've seen discussing the game, I think I'm the only person that actually paid for it...

We should also mention for anyone still interested that in addition to the ridiculous install size and framerate cap, it also lacks any graphical settings apart from a singular "high detail" on/off setting, and there's no mouse support for the menus (though to be fair, this is a game you should play with a gamepad anyway).

Hmm...looks like Aspyr isn't doing too well: http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/12/09/large-layoffs-reported-at-aspyr-media/

Sucks for people to lose their jobs, but I certainly don't have any sympathy for the company. I still condemn them for essentially lying to customers about the travesty that is Dark Sector.

There must be an interesting story behind this. They are one of the most prolific publishers I've seen over the past several years, so much so that I distinctly remember thinking "How many games are they going to release this month?" once or twice.

Well they spam us with inferior products meant to make small amounts of profit... I assume at some point those profits did not cover the bills.
