I am looking to get a 32" LCD tv to use as a gaming monitor for my PC. I have an Nvidia GTX 295 with HDMI output, will an LCD tv look as good as my 22" LCD PC monitor? Are there certain features i should look for when buying the tv ?

For a screen that big as a PC gaming screen you are going to need 1080p. The reason for this is that at 720p the actual size of the pixels will be huge or you will have what is commonly known as "screen door" effect. Don't worry about being able to run that resolution, your video card is plenty beefy enough.

So as long as its 1080P i should be ok? I dont want to sacrifice image quality just to go bigger...i want it to look as good as my 22"lcd pc monitor..

I was always happy with my 37" 1080p monitor at regular desk viewing distance, some people are more prone to notice things like the screen door effect. For me I had to get very close to see it.

720p I wouldnt use for anything computer related at any distance, its just not enough pixels for computer work. It would manage for movie/game only at a distance but its only a few dollars more for 1080p these days so no real reason to not go for it.

TVs are starting to advance faster than monitors now, they already have 240hz LCD TV's out now.... we just got the first set of 120hz LCD monitors.

I just noticed the 1080P ones are significantly more $$$ also....i need to save a LITTLE more.

what they said save where you want but don't take a 720P


also be aware of obvious LCD TV flaws against dedicated computer LCDs
=>response time is not that important on a TV and should be worse than a computer LCD (but not always)
|=>that's important if you intent to play fast paced games where the screen goes right & left very fast (aka FPS for the most part). Then Depending on your sensibility you may see (or not) ghost images.

=> the TV may or may not display correctly some computer common resolutions which aren't native (i.e. streched for example)
|=>this is important if you're picky as to how you want things to display. But even some computer LCDs don't do the job right on this front (again depending on preferences)


However I don't use a TV as a computer screen, so this is things I read from reviews overtime. Opinions may differ.

Can anyone suggest a good LCD around 32" that will work for me...i will mostly be using it for FPS PC games.

yes, but as you are aware, the 120Hz monitors are 120Hz input, the 240Hz TV's are 200Hz in the UK (PAL format), and they have 60Hz inputs, so have input/ processing lag, and can have a lot of un-desired effects when running as a PC gaming monitor.

the panasonic ones do scan at 600Hz, just means it refreshes 10 times for every frame your PC sends :P probibly adds a lot of lag to then "replay" the image.

thats the biggest problem with these technologies, just give us a game mode with 0ms input lag, and 120Hz input via DVI or DP. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
