2DBoy the makers of World of Goo are celebrating the first birthday of the game by giving it away for whatever you want to pay.

http://2dboy.com/games.php

You can donate from as little as $0.01 :onethumb

Good for anyone who doesn't have this game yet (like myself) :)

Note: Their servers are being completely hammered. You may wanna wait a bit

Radiohead did this with an album and I believe the average payment was $5... $5 isn't too cheapskate-ish I guess, but when you consider as many were under $5 as above... well... some people don't see the worth of the product I guess.

I paid $8, for the record.

I own World of Goo on Steam and I would say $10 is the right price for it, myself.

Although I think they might actually lose money at that price point due to processing fees.

I applaud 2DBoy for stepping out of the "norm" of business. We need more of this in the marketplace (and in other industries as well). I wasn't tempted @ $20, and puzzle-style games just aren't my thing, but I will probably chuck a few dollars their way just to show my support.

With the advent of donation systems and alternate payment schemes in the Internet age I find myself in the position of not being able to pay as much as I want to certain recipients simply because there are so many things I want to patronize and I have to stretch the dollars. I suppose that's a good problem, in a way.

-edit-
Run-on sentence FTW!

There are zillions of games out there which are actually free, and I'm sure the vast majority of their developers wouldn't mind one bit if you threw a few bucks their way.
