Not a real high priority project I am guessing.

Did you look for an ini file of some kind? Most simple widescreen "hacks" start there.

Well I wrote hacks in quotes as it isn't really a hack, just a work around, and I meant the ini file.

Step one in testing if a game can easily be made to work in other resolutions is to look for an ini or other config file and see if it has resolution entries.

I doubt anyone with the knowledge to go further than that will either own this game or care enough about it to work on it, unfortunately.

You'll need a No-CD executable for this to work.

To add widescreen support to this game you'll need a hex editor such as Be.HexEditor. Open your gof_f.exe file with it and search for the following string.

58 02 00 00 c7 05 74 f2 75 00 20 03

The groups 20 03 and 58 02 represent the resolution 800x600. Replace those with the resolution of your choice.

1024x600 - Replace 20 03 with 00 04 and replace 58 02 with 58 02
1280x720 - Replace 20 03 with 00 05 and replace 58 02 with D0 02
1280x800 - Replace 20 03 with 00 05 and replace 58 02 with 20 03
1366x768 - Replace 20 03 with 56 05 and replace 58 02 with 00 03
1440x900 - Replace 20 03 with A0 05 and replace 58 02 with 84 03
1680x1050 - Replace 20 03 with 90 06 and replace 58 02 with 1A 04
1920x1080 - Replace 20 03 with 80 07 and replace 58 02 with 38 04
1920x1200 - Replace 20 03 with 80 07 and replace 58 02 with B0 04

When you're done, save the file and launch the game.

Unfortunately the game stretches and I don't see an FOV fix forthcoming.

800x600 (4:3)

1440x900 (16:10)

I'll screw around with it more later and test it out in other resolutions (I've only tested 1440x900 so far) and then add it to the confirmed forum.

Also, let me know if the game crashes during the intro screens. It did that to me the first time I ran it, but has been fine since so it's probably not related to the hack.

Note that this stretches the game. Would probably be better to use something like 1600x1200 on a 1920x1200, and play in pillarboxing.

Thank you so much, BooTx! But I can't see the images, could you please post them again?

They are visible in your reply. It is your browser settings. Or click the missing pic box and go to the direct link.

Also, good tip, Ibrin; it had slipped my mind.

You'll see what resolutions work for me and which fail. That doesn't necessasrily mean they'll fail for you. I also wasn't able to test anything higher so I don't know if they work or not.

Because of the very low default resolution, the fix really increases the image quality nicely. Hope it works out for you.
