And even that list seems to differ from user to user, sometimes no matter their setup..

The only resolutions needing hacking are the ones that don't show up in the menu, all the other ones work fine straight from the options menu.

That doesn't really answer any of my questions. If the list is arbitrary, why don't faux-TH resolutions show up for you? And would true TH resolutions show up for TH users?

Its arbitrarily limited to a hand selected list of resolutions.

Arbitrariness is a term given to choices and actions which are considered to be done not by means of any underlying principle or logic, but by whim or some decidedly illogical formula

They are hard coded.

The word means something different in the context of math, and by extension, computers.

5. (mathematics) Any and all possible.

The equation is true for an arbitrary value of x.

So if an engine supports arbitrary resolutions, this means if you have something crazy that the devs couldn't have possibly thought to add support for manually, like 1868x1040, the engine will work just fine with it.

Anyway, if Prototype uses a fixed list of resolutions, this still leaves the question of whether true TH resolutions are part of the list or not.

heh I did not know that. Thats pretty fraked up that it means nearly the exact opposite when dealing with math.

TH resolutions are not apart of the list. I believe the list is in the readme and someone had posted it.

Ok, then this game gets a B+, unless Matrox adds the hack into their SGU (or an official Prototype patch enables native arbitrary resolutions).

Hack solution for TH resolutions is a blemish.

I still think my arbitrary fits better for this since we are not talking about math ;)

Its Arbitrary as in Artificially limited.

We are talking about math. A list of resolutions is a set of integer pairs - a fundamental concept of mathematics. Anything regarding computer logic comes down to math.

1280x720 and 1280x800 both work natively. I didn't see 768 though.

Does 1280x768 work natively for other games for you?
