Hello WSGF community!

This is my first post here, I'm actually kind of overwhelmed today. I bought a second 27.5 inch monitor on Wednesday and it arrived via UPS today.

(Here is the monitor, it is listed as the Hanns.G HG281DP on this site):
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3326540&Sku=H94-2801

In my excitement, I started researching how to expand the WoW interface onto the second screen, and came across a thread on Tankspot where a member had actually taken his video setup across three screens!

(Here is that thread):
http://www.tankspot.com/forums/f120/47746-dual-monitor-setup.html

Needless to say... that thread excited me. I was wondering if using the MatroxTripleHead2Go would work with monitors this large for WoW and HL2, or if I should just be happy with they new off-screen.

Thanks!

~Chook

It can work with the monitors just not at their full resolution

The max for the digital triplehead2go is currently 5040x1050 (1680x1050x3)

So your screens couldn't run in their native res of 1920x1200, so you will have to ask yourself if you can bear to lose sharpness. (try running desktop and games in 1680 for a while, and see what you think.)

Depending on your graphics card, I think ATi has some issues with 5040 but I am not entirely sure on this.

I am presently using 3 I-INC 28" (27.5) monitors and have no complaints at all. My vid card is a ATI 4870 so I am limited to 4320x900. I don't know if they will handle the higher res that Nvidia gives (5040x1050). If I had to complain, it would be that my right screen doesn't always return after playing on single screen but it is easily fixed by shutting down and re-starting the right screen. At the time, I payed $399.00 for each monitor, they are much cheaper now.

Sweet, so it sounds like it would work!

In that case, I need to pick up a third monitor, plus the triplehead2go, a second gtx 260 for Sli, and that's it? I'm running vista ultimate x64, 8gbs ddr2 1000, and a q6600 oced to 3.0, any of that present a problem?

Thanks for the fast replies guys.

One thing I noticed in another thread, is apparently your monitors have to be capable of doing 1680x1050 at 57hz refresh rate, so I would test that now on one of your monitors to ensure that it will work properly as that is apparently a requirement for triple 1680x1050

As for the rest of your system, I don't think any of it appears problematic but I would get a second opinion.

hmmm, they can do 1680 x 1050 (tried it last night and it looked fine to me) but the monitors only work at 59 or 60 hz.

Then it looks as if you would have to run 1440x900 *3, which is the same aspect ratio but a smaller resolution.

If I were you I would either use SofTH or give up, as a TH2Go (imo) is quite expensive for an inadequate solution.
