Just learned that Filefront is going down, which is terrible news with almost no warning. The forums are already offline. Now there are only 4 days left to get mods and other files from all their networked sites. The mod communities of many, many games ([gamename].filefront.com) are heavily dependent on these sites, so there is a good chance that tons of content will be lost for good when the sites go dark.

Sad day. Get your files while you can.

Wow. That really cheeses me off. It's near always my first and preferred choice for grabbing patches and such. Always fast speeds, good layout, easy navigation, and no mother-"fudging" wait lines like stinkin' Fileplanet.

That "Farewell" note was pretty short. I was hoping to see a reason. I can only assume it's lack of funds.

Poo. :(

But luckily i have nothing uploaded, and gamershell is a fairly good replacement. I just hope this doens;t become too popular an occurance. The last thing the internet needs is further homogeny. One good site goes down, then after a few more we're pretty much forced to go to some lame site.... like Fileplanet.

Well you get what you pay for, i guess.

R.I.P., good buddy.

You assumed correctly, It was owned by Ziff Davis.

This is really sad the HalfLife Files section was great. :(

Rarely used it for patches as I exclusively use steam or the developers site for that but when ever I did it always gave me around 600-800KBps, thats over 500KBps more than anyone else.

CRAPPP! No wonder I haven't been able to get on their forums for a few days. Talk about no warning whatsoever. No one on their forums spoke a word of it, and they had numerous moderators participating on them.

The first farewell line saying "indefinitely" (vs permanently) has a spark of at least some hope they may be back, but when they end by saying "thank you for your support over the years and wish you all the very best", it tends to sound rather final.

I'm not worried about my uploaded files, I have them all on disc already. It's the day to day use for patches, mods, maps etc that I'll miss. I'm just glad I managed to put the WiCoPP Reality v2.8/2.9 mod on disc for CoD2 a couple days ago. It totals about 699MB and fits perfectly on one CDR.

I don't know what's going on, but the individual game sites Filefront has are still accessible, even though they said they were shutting them down 2 days ago. Could this be a glimmer of hope that they got funding somehow?

Well, the forums are back up, and I don't see any message about the site going down anymore. In fact, they've updated the forum software and their image server software, so it looks like it's not going anywhere.

I suppose it was a joke.

But isn't one supposed to start a April 1st prank ON the 1st?

Even on teh day when I'm never fooled, i still think theprank thing is such a fucking waste of time. I NEVER work on this day.

EDIT: okay now there's an admin at last post claiming it's NOT a joke. Is this opposite day? Another reason to loathe this April first crap.

Hey guys, enough with the April Fool's jokes. I'm still looking up tentatively wondering if a Conflicker bomb will be dropped on me.

Didn't know the FF forums were back up. I checked yesterday and still saw the blank page, great news! In fact it's about the only good news I've had all week.

APRIL FOOOLS!

Is April 1st 2009 virus real?
We are hearing in the news new dangerous & advance form of computer/pc virus will hit tomorrow on April 1st, 2009? is this some kind of media thing of doomsday or just plain old April fools day?

Media hype.

All that happens on April 1 is that Conficker’s next stage goes into place on already infected systems. This does not mean masses of new users will be infected. This seems to be the confusion.

The Conficker worm takes advantage of a vulnerability in Windows that Microsoft fixed in October of last year. If a machine is patched with this update from Microsoft, then that system cannot get infected by Conficker.

The reason some people are getting infected by Conficker is because their system(s) are unpatched.

The truth is, there will be no April 1st outbreak, despite what some of the press stories have said so far. The only thing that will happen with Conficker on April 1st is that already-infected systems will begin to use a new algorithm to locate potential update servers.
