When playing King's Bounty in 1280 x 720 (which is a selectable resolution), I get two black bars on both the left and right of the screen, as if it's not scanning correctly in widescreen.

Numbers, such as unit life and quantity of my armies render in these black bars, but not the artwork of the game.

Is 1280 x 720 not supported natively in this game?

Thanks in advance, and I love this game btw, I just wish I could play it on my monitor's native resolution!

Screenshots (Notice how in the second screenshot you can see numbers in the dark void of the black bars!):

Hey thanks for reporting this. I didn't notice the problem as I was writing the Detailed Report but I'll double-check that and get back to you ;)

As you can see in the DR, the game's max display is a 16:10 area. 1280x720 is a bit wider than than, so the game adds 'pillarboxing' (black bars on the sides). Units' health bars shouldn't be visible in there though. [Mistake edited]
Is your game up-to-date ?

1280x720 is true 16:9.
1280/720 = 1.78~
16/9 = 1.78~

Oops. Yeah, 1280x768 is the "beast of its own" I was thinking about. 1280x720 aka 720p is, of course, true 16:9.

Glitch confirmed : the 2D elements are not always hidden under the black bars. (Does it mean the bars are only a veil on the 3D world and KB:TL could be hacked for fullscreen 16:9 ??) Will add that as a "singleplayer anomaly" to the DR, thanks again zuffdaddy.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I would love to tinker around in the .inf files to see if there is a way to force my resolution, but I'm too darned busy with DOW2 right now!!

Glad I could help Scavvenjahh

Your game is in 1280x720, although this area contains bars of black pixels. I don't think the few inf files will help. You'd probably need some more specific hacking to effectively remove the black bars, if that's possible at all.

Hi.

Can someone please let me know if 1280x768 resolution also has the black bars?

I know 1280x720 has black bars and 1280x800 doesn't...

... but what about 1280x768?

Hmmmm... really would like to know as that is my monitor's native resolution.

Much appreciated!

Yes, 1280x768 has pillarboxing, too. ALL widescreen aspect ratios that are not 16:10 will have black bars, but they're a thinner at 15:9 than at 16:9 resolutions.

1280x768
