Well I registered with microsoft and got Windows 7 32 bit beta and a registration key, so here goes...

I downloaded the WHQL version of Matrox's Powerdesk dated 18.12.08

I tried Nvidia drivers 175.19, 180.48, 181.20 and the latest "download via update only drivers" too (pre-release).

Only 175.19 works at 5040x1050. The installation was flawless. However, to reach that resolution, Windows Desktop Management is completely disabled (no fancy aero stuff). This is not a problem of course, but if you adjust the resolution back to 1680x1050 (my monitors' native resolution), Windows Desktop Management is re-enabled and you cant regain 5040x1050 unless you un-install then re-install the Powerdesk software.

The custom resolutions appear as normal in all the Nvidia drivers expect the pre-release ones, which is kind of frustrating because as soon as I tried to enable 5040x1050 in any driver other than 175.19, my monitors go out of range? This is strange because they work with 175.19 so i can't get my head round that. I don't have to manually add the resolution as they are all already there...

I've not tried any games yet so I can't report on them, but I will later.

Maybe my 8800GTS (512mb) hasn't enough video memory to enable the windows desktop management software at such high resolutions?

The good news is however that at least it can work with the right combination of drivers...

Update: It seems no matter what I do, 5040x1050 is disabled upon reboot - with any Nvidia driver. Windows Desktop Management is re-enabled each time I reboot and therefore disables triple widescreen resolutions... Oh dear.

using 174.93 got 5040 x1050 in Nvidia, and GXM but Windows resolutions 4320 x 900 max. Have tried other drivers. Think it's early days for this working :(.

Turned off Aero, so think your right being about it being the DSM.

I have a 64bit key for windows 7 and my XP installation is messing up on me so i think i might reformat. I was thinking about putting Win7 on but it seems like it's not working with the Th2G @ 5040x1050? If thats the case then i'm gonna hold off. Any updates as far as being able to get it working?

Win7 works fine for me with the BETA Powerdesk and NV BETA driver. I have to use the Matrox set up wizard to set 5040 and after every game finishes it resets back to the 4380 ( or whatever) res so I use the wizard to set 5040 again. But no probs at all apart from that!

From my thread here :)
This is BETA for the vista (and therefore win7) out of range error, not a pure win7 BETA. But it worked fine for me when I gave win7 a whirl
