Anyone having trouble with the game crashing? Sometimes, can occur after 1 minute or 20 but my game always crashes :(
It looks like its freeing but nothing else happens and i have to ctrl + alt + delete because it stops responding. searched somewhat here but dident really find anything like this. Running the Uk version of the game i guess and latest patch :( Anyone else experiencing this?

Do you have a quad core? If so, you need to set the engine to only use 2 cores, fixed the crashing for me, I'll see if I can find the fix.

Here you go

The game engine has some issues with processors that have more than 2 cores. You can force the game to only use two of them and it will stop the freezing. I haven't had it freeze once since I did this several days ago.
Open up the fallout.ini file in: My DocumentsMy GamesFallout3
Find the line:
bUseThreadedAI=0
change it to:
bUseThreadedAI=1
Add another line after it and insert:
iNumHWThreads=2
This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.

Please don't bump this thread with technical issues. For problems using Eyefinity, Crossfire and 3x1P, head to the Eyefinity forum instead. ;)

The summary article at http://widescreengamingforum.com/dr/fallout-3 says the following about FOV:
fDefaultFOV=75.0000
You will need to change this fov value based on your aspect ratio. These values use the 5:4 aspect ratio as a baseline fov.
4:3 - 79.9000
16:9 - 105.3000
15:9 - 99.0000
16:10 - 95.2000

I don't remember if this looked right to me with Fallout 3, but I just tried 95.2 on Fallout: New Vegas for 1920x1200 and it looked extremely fish-eyed. Using a 4:3->16:10 converted value of 85.28 looks a lot more reasonable.

Apologies for posting here. Fallout: New Vegas uses the same engine as Fallout 3 and Oblivion, which is why I suppose there is not a detailed report for it.

Strange that the Fallout 3 report suggests FOV changes but the Oblivion report does not. Is that Bethesda's screw-up, or a WSGF oversight?

That fov change for F3 is for certain screen elements not the actual gameworld. Changing them in F3 would have no effect on the "fisheye" you see. A lot of the DRs got their order blown up when the site switched over which might be were the confusion is coming from.

Which means for New Vegas you are either changing the main camera fov value or you are experiencing a placebo effect.

Try here if looking to change something for New Vegas.

How to get sharper pipboy text and Terminal

I have gotten a satisfactory result from the pipboy where the text is sharper now, see attached picture :)

It is not the standard pipboy :P

Guide in progress... I have used a lot of time to tinker with things, I'm writing this so you might get things up and running faster than I did :)
The guide is two parts, one for getting the pipboy text and centered HUD, and the other one for getting better graphics and gameplay after other guides and what I have found worthwhile :)

I'm not sure how I arrived at the pipboy I have now, since I followed the Guide I found which is mentioned in Part 2 first, then I started tweaking the pipboy.

My System shortlist
Windows 8
AMD 7970 5760x1200
16 GB Ram

PART 1 of 2 - The Pipboy

Mods which you should have with Eyefinity/Surround (I have not tested this on Surround, if you have, and this works, please tell :)) :
Adjustable Hud - aHUD
Pipboy Readius 1.4 (The one in the picture)
Better High Detail map and Icons (It's listed in the Mod Guide on Steam linked below in Part 2, so you can skip installing it again :))

"Better High Detail Map and Icon" install prompt in Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) I chose "8k with roads" and "100% brighter" and "Clean Pipboy Screen"

*Might or might not be required, please wait with installing it. If the text was still blurry, but installing MTUI fixed it, please tell me :)*
----MTUI - UI Improvement

These are the fonts I use. Place them in ..\Fallout 3\Data\Textures\fonts
***Comes from Darnified UI, so if you are installing it later, you don't need to download the fonts here and extract them to the folder, but you might have to do the replace edit below again.***
--I generated a font myself which was much more suitable as a Terminal font, which I named TechnicBoldFixedSysMultiMon.
I might consider making more suited Pipboy fonts too later, but I have to play the game more, I think I have tweaked the game more than I have played it now xD
Edit FALLOUT.INI which lies in My documents\My Games\Fallout 3\ ( C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\Fallout3 ) with the following :
Spoiler:
Replace the whole [Fonts] section with the text below

[Fonts]
;sFontFile_1=Textures\Fonts\Glow_Monofonto_Large.fnt
;ORG Pipboy stats and notes font etc sFontFile_1=Textures\Fonts\DarN_FranKleinBold_14.fnt

You also probably need to change following in FALLOUT.INI
Spoiler:
Well, if the script prompting for "Would you like FALLOUT.INI to be modified to use the custom TFT screen setup?" when installing Readius Pipboy works when you press yes, you can skip changing these values (My Nexus Mod Manager crashed when I pressed yes, so I had to do it manually)

fPipboy1stPersonFOV=35.0 (I changed mine to 40)
fScanlineScalePipboy=0
bEnableFlickerPipboy=0
DefaultBurstDuration=1
fDefaultBurstIntensity=0
fMiniBurstDuration=1
fMiniBurstIntensity=0
fPulseBrightenIntensity=0
fPulseRadiusIntensity=0
fPulseRate=0
fVertHoldChance=0
fShudderChance=0
bEnableFlickerMenus=0
bEnableScanlinesMenus=0
bEnableScanlinesPipboy=0
fBlurRadiusMenus=0
bUseImageSpaceMenuFX=0

My pipboy in fallout.ini has only these values
[Pipboy]
fBlurRadiusPipboy=0
fBlurIntensityPipboy=0
fScanlineScalePipboy=0
bEnableFlickerPipboy=0
bUsePipboyMode=1

In FALLOUT.INI I also use these under [Interface]
iSafeZoneXWide=800
iSafeZoneYWide=15
iSafeZoneX=800
iSafeZoneY=15

and in [RenderedTerminal]
fRenderedTerminalZoom=88

If it is still blurry, like mentioned above, installing MTUI might help, but please tell me if it was needed so I can update this guide :)

PART 2 of 2 - Mods for better graphics, textures, filter, animation etc

I basically followed this one for the general setup for my Fallout 3, before I tried to fix the pipboy blurry text
http://steamcommunity.com/app/22370/dis ... 147175081/

I use most of them, except Blackened, Project Reality (Skip Project Reality//F3ProjectRealityMkI :: If you choose to use ENBSeries filters mentioned below. This is subject to change since I'm not done yet :P) Faster Pipboy, More Map Markers, Fallout Remastered (Not sure why skipped this one) Stutter Remover, Robco Certified (I will try it later on perhaps :)) and Optimizer Textures. Also Disabled Immersive HUD (iHUD) at the moment.

On Darnified UI, remember you have to install the hotfix too, and enable/install Adjustable Hud - aHUD (From Part 1) after both Darnified UI and it's hotfix are enabled/installed.

What I have added
I also installed E ENB (graphic modifications utility *preset* for the ENBSeries), but I needed to use NSBSeries v0.173 instead of v0.216 which E ENB included. To do that, replace d3d9.dll in fallout 3 game root you find in the folder "WrapperVersion" in the v0.173 archive file after you have installed E ENB.

Current load order of plugins in Nexus Mod Manager (It's Importable in NMM)

I have gotten everything satisfactory now when it comes to Eyefinity problems it seems, so if you have a way to large terminal, picklocking animation etc, please tell :)
If this helped you, please tell :)

Changelog
-Had to change the font for the terminal
-Generated a font for the Terminal much more suited for it, [Font] code updated to reflect that too TechnicBoldFixedSysMultiMon (Had to reupload the fonts, as the previous copy made the game crash) :)

Attachments:
File comment: The Terminal text is split up into two, so clicking the monitor gives you the rest of the text on a new screen. So don't worry, it hasn't disappeared below the screen area :) It did take a lot of effort to get a proper balance. Not sure if I can get it much more sharper really by font manipulation alone, but at least it is much more readable than I first began with it.

Started playing Fallout 3 again anew, and on my eyefinity setup (5040 x 1050) I was experiencing a "fog" whenever I zoomed in with a scope that prevented me from seeing anything. After some digging, I came across this post that fixed my issue:

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/ ... -zoom-fix/

In summary, he added fScopeScissorAmount=0 under the [Display] section in each .ini file. I thought it would be good to add here for posterity =)

Sorry for diging this thread out of the grave :)

Have unfinished some games, FO3 is among them and just came across the same problem -- lockpick is not possible, exactly same behavior as described.

No solution was given in this thread nor I found anything else on net.

Still -- anyone figured out what's the problem and possible fix?

Thanks in advance,
b.

Found the problem :)

From page http://www.wsgf.org/dr/fallout-3 I followed instructions for "Eyefinity / Surround Specific Solution & Issues":

Quote:
To get the HUD (health, ammo) onto the middle monitor, go into your FALLOUT.ini

Find the following lines..
Code:
iSafeZoneXWide=15
iSafeZoneYWide=15
iSafeZoneX=15

Change them to one of this (depending on your resolution)

3840x1024
Code:
iSafeZoneXWide=610
iSafeZoneYWide=15
iSafeZoneX=610

5040x1050
Code:
iSafeZoneXWide=770
iSafeZoneYWide=15
iSafeZoneX=770

(iSafeZoneYWide does not change intentionally)

As I have 3440 x 1440 I simply used values for 3840x1024 --> WRONG!

After changing back to original 15/15/15 lockpick work again.
