Hi all I have a Dell 2405FPW monitor and am in the proccess of getting 2 more. I love the veiwing angles possible with this monitor and wonder if anyone else has used 3 of them in eyefinity?
My main concern is the lack of a Displayport on any of the three monitors.

After reading many many post's it seem it MAY be possible to use a DVI-VGA adapter to power one monitor.
Has anyone used this with these monitors with success? I think I read somewhere it was resolution dependent. Of course I want to use the native 1920X1200 resolution with all three monitors.

Also I have a 5850 card so I am concerned that it will be powerfull enough to run all three monitors at 5760X1200. Would 3600X1920 look better. I think the number of pixels is the same so performance will not be different....right?

Thanks!

I am running 3 2405s off a 5870. My system specs are below:

Q6600 @ 3.2
4gb ram
5870 @ 875/1200

You will need a DP-->DVI adapter for one of the monitors. If the DP-->DVI monitor has blinking issues, you will need to flash the bios to fix this problem. This problem/solution has been discussed thoroughly in the forums.

I play MW2 (at max setting) almost exclusively and generally performance has been good. There are some areas of slowdown but I think it has more to do with my underpowered CPU as opposed to the the 5870.

Depending on your cpu and they type of games you play, the 5850 may or may not be enough. If you like to play will all the eyecandy maxed, it most likely won't have enough juice for smooth framerates.

You are right, performance at 5760x1200 and 3600x1920 will be the same.

You can get 1920x1200 on VGA using a EDID Mask.

Thanks for the reply's.
That EDID looks interesting. I am thinking about getting a third 1920X1200 monitor with a displayport to do away with dongles and hacks. I could use a TN LCD as the center panel to avoid the viewing angle limits that a TN panel presents.

What monitor would you guys suggest that is 1920X1200 with displayport?

I have my third 2405FWP coming soon. Can you tell me the brand of DP-DVI adapter you are using?

Thanks!

I should have my 3rd Monitor today. I will report back how it works after I get it set up. As of now I have 2 monitors running in portrait mode and it works great. Only issue so far is the monitopr running off the DVI-VGA is slow to come on after exiting the only game I have tried so far (Flightsimx) it takes like 2 seconds and then works fine. I ordered the powered DP-DVI dual like dongle and will hook that up to the third Monitor and report back!

Ok got it all up and working. So far it works great. A few issues such as displayport monitor not coming back on after I exit a game. Fix is unplug power from monitor and it comes back on. Second is the auto adjust on the VGA monitor needs to be run a few toimes because it will be off at times. I really only play WW2 online and a little Flight simX so for those games so far so good.

When I had the monitors in portrait mode WW2 would not run so I swithed to landscape and it runs fine. Takes a little getting used to the stretch effect on the side monitors but it is pretty immirsive.

Will post picks if anyone wants them
