Seems like the Crysis team and Nvidia might have been a bit wrong with DX10.1 if Rage 3d is correct in their test of assassins creed:

Yeah you can even find DX10.1 details on AC in Koroush's updated TweakGuide for the game. That is interesting info, but that memory footprint optimization is only going to help those with rigs high end enough to run such games in DX10.1 with AA on.

I was excited to find I can indeed run the game adequately on my single core, and I'm not even using lowest settings (which look like crap btw). I have a P4 3Ghz, X1950Pro 512MB AGP, 2GB RAM rig. I use 2/4 Graphics, 2/3 Shadows, 1/4Detail, 1/3 Crowd Density at 1024x768.

I get minor slow downs during side objectives that involve fighting off several guards and the frame rates during assassination escapes is good enough to haul tail out of there. It's a bit awkward to try and engage in swordplay during escapes, but it seems to be necessary to run anyway as you just drain your synchronization if you don't.

I actually played a little while using 4/4 Graphics and 2/4 Detail just to see how great the game can look. The result though was about as much lag during side objectives as I now get in escapes. Thus I never bothered trying assassinations or escapes with those settings.

From what many were saying concerning single cores though I assumed just walking through city streets with lots of citizens around would be pretty laggy, but it's not. Of course it helps to use Min Crowd Density and 1/4 Detail. The only tradeoff is I don't see much blood. I looked but there doesn't appear to be a separate command for increasing blood.
