I have 5.1, its probably the best way to go as 4.1 isn't supported all the time.

I'm actually going to upgrade to Logitech Z-5400's soon.

Good price for them now, like $350 Aus and they are a good set of speakers.

Those look a lot better than the last pair of Logitech's I saw. I stuck with my old Klipsch ProMedia's for--must be almost ten(!) years now? But finally decided to make the switch to seperates. So far I like it a lot--except for the terrible Creative drivers I have to deal with for my sound card. I'm about to try the Pax drivers--anyone have any experience with these?

Yeah they are a much better set of speakers then the last few logitech ones I must say. The main selling point for me was the 2x digital optical inputs, I'm planing on hooking up my Xbox 360 and my PS3(when I get it, hehe) to these without worrying about switching cables etc.

I love my 6.1 setup, but I upgraded to it from a 2.1 setup, so I can't really address your question specifically.
