UFO: Extraterrestrials is going to be released on 28.2.2007, it is produced by small czech (outsider ) studio Chaos Concepts, BUT the game is going to be awsome!!!! It will be remake of the classic game UFO: Enemy Unknown (in USA released as X-COM: UFO Defense, 1994) for all those HARDCORE fans of the original UFO (and/or X-COM: Terror from the Deep, 1995 and X-COM: Apocalypse, 1997). I would prefer it above recent ALTAR UFO games (UFO: Aftermath, 2003; UFO: Aftershock, 2005; UFO: Afterlight, 2007) - many will agree with me, that these games are not even nearly as good as the original UFO series.

Please feel free to download the gameplay video from official website
http://www.ufo-extraterrestrials.com/

or watch it on YouTube

For all those that do not know this game (or any UFO game), the game experience is based on defeating and capturing allien technology/vessels/creatures in turn-based combat, learning and inventing new weapons based on their technology... there is much fun hidden in such a type of gameplay.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhh. The fun I had playing X-COM back in the day.

Its a shame, this version just looks like a re-hash, new graphics same game. Same shet different smell.

I don't think I would have the patience to play it again, it does get rather repatitous.

They needed some fresh ideas in there. Perhaps some first person views or something.

You can't just re-hash an old game with new graphics, may as well play the old game for free!

YEAH that is exactly what it is supposed to be, the same old UFO with fresh new look, with as many old good gameplay aspects from UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka XCOM) as it can have... but... the game will not be just remake, it will have its own storyline of course, different UFO-CATCHING radar system, unique possibilities. With word "remake" i meant, that it will have UFOpaedia and it will be turn-based strategy game. It will not just be COPY of UFO:EU (XCOM). I tryed to explain, that ALTAR UFO games (Aftermath, Aftershock, Afterlight) offer different kind of gameplay, they do not remind you of the original UFO:EU (XCOM) gameplay as UFO: Extraterrestrials does. UFO: Afterlight f.e. offers the possibility to swith in First Person View, there are more such a things in Afterlight making it "different" from the original UFO game, but... is it for good? Do we not want just the same old goodness in new? That is what is Extraterrestrials in my opinion attempting to be, to be the game, that was missing here for years, to recreate the original UFO game feeling in new engine, new storyline, with new aspects.. I do not think that it is MINUS. There are 3 ALTAR UFO games that did not satisfy UFO fans much in past 4 years, now it may change with Extraterrestrials

I love the whole series, I'll buy it even if it is a rehash. I've got all the games so far and enjoyed all of them.

Quick question where can I get a version of XCOM and UFO that will work on XP? I've got DOSbox application to run them, but it's just a pain sorting it out everytime I want to play. Any ideas?

It does not look bad, but when i tryed the demo, i was dissapointed a bit - maybe because i am waiting for more classic UFo gameplay (in Extraterrestrials)

Well first check out these free open source UFo projects

http://ufo.myexp.de
UFO Alien Invasion, The game is still in developement

http://ufo2000.sourceforge.net/
UFO 2000, Not as nice looking, but open-source, with more bugs then the game mentioned above, also in developemnt.

http://www.xforce-online.de/
X-Force: Fight for Destiny, available also in English. Similar gameplay to UFO.

http://www.marsnomercy.org/cms2/
Mars - Land of no Mercy, another unfinished clon of UFO.

w8 i will try to find out if it is possible to play UFO:EU/XCOM without Dosbox
edit: http://xcom.486games.net/x-com_gold_edition.rar try this one, i do not say it will work for you

however, did u know you can optimize dosbox (with parameters), so that it starts the game right after clicking on the icon on your desktop?

edit: UFO: Enemy Unknown screenshots for comparison

Ufo: Extraterrestrials is released, however in Europe it may not be in shops until June/July (there will be different publisher for Europe and for the rest of the world). In USA it seems you will be able to buy the game in shops after 4.-5. May. But definitely we all will be able to download the game from all locations after 4.-5.May from

http://www.matrixgames.com/
or
http://www.gamersgate.com/

There is one guy on official forum that stated, that in Moscow is the game on sale today, and that there is english and russian version of the game on one CD/DVD?.

Digital download only: Price 19.99USD/EUROS depending on the location you download it from.

In Shop price: 19.99EUROS all across Europe in the end of June according to the publisher, however today we have the game for preorder in shops in Czech republic for cca 39.99EURO. None of czech game shops changed the release date for the game to the end of June yet.

In Shop US price: Probably 39.99USD, not sure, you will have to see guys. There is option to download the game from Matrixgames and pay some additional cost for the physical shipment (CD/DVD).

I must not forget, there are two new videos available for download:

I can confirm, that the game can run in widescreen resolutions after editing the ini.file (default resolution 1024x768, changed to 1680x1050). I may post detailed report sometimes between today and sunday.

So far let me put it this way:

The game is very very simple, i mean the GUI, the menus, there is not much to choose from in the game, in base, simply choose scientists lab, start new research, choose the name of the project, done. No additional options. Everything in the game is like this, very very simple, BUT is not simple better then complicated?

In mission, the graphics are very clean, no Dx10 effects though :). It is what would you expect from remake. This game definitively is attempt to remake original strategy game XCOM. Although there is intro movie before the game starts, after the movie ends, it is simply you, the globe, new UFO detected, shoot it down, send your soldiers there, so far I did not notice any story during first month or so, simply you, globe and missions, and funding, research of course. Too early to produce anything so far.

So final words are: this is remake, but not excact copy, the gameplay will definitely remind you of playing XCOM. No special additions to the gameplay, no changes or improvements, let the hunt begin.
