==Game Information==

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is the third game in the Splinter Cell series from Ubisoft. Tensions between Japan , China, and North Korea threaten world peace. You play as secret agent Sam Fisher, and are tasked with a mission whose relation to this is not immediately obvious, but is ultimately vital to preventing global catastrophe. The game features a big upgrade in technology, with normal mapping, HDR lighting, Havok physics, and more dynamic AI.


==Version==

This information is based on the "official" demo, and may or may not apply to the full game.


==Method==

It is strongly recommended that you do this *before* beginning a new game. You need to set your FOV, but if you saved your game previously, loading this game will reset the FOV to whatever it was when you saved it. This can be corrected by zooming in and out (that's how I got the screenshots in the caverns), but it's easier to get it right the first time and not have to do this every time you quickload.

Start the game, and set your graphics options. You may be able to set your resolution manually, but if not, just set it to 1024x768. Save the options, and quit.

Go to this directory (you may need to enable viewing of hidden files first):
Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataUbisoftTom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory

Edit the file "SplinterCell3User.ini." Look for these lines:

[Engine.PlayerController]
DesiredFOV=75.0
DefaultFOV=75.0

Change them to set your FOV. I recommend 85.28 for 16:10 resolutions, and 91.31 for 16:9 resolutions.

If you were able to set your resolution natively, you can skip the rest. Otherwise, keep reading.

Edit the file "SplinterCell3.ini." Look for these lines:

FullscreenViewportX=1024
FullscreenViewportY=768

Change them to set your resolution.

The game is hor +, dependent on your FOV setting.


1024x768, FOV 75


1280x800, FOV 85.28


==Supported resolutions==

I tested this on my desktop, which supports resolutions up to 1280x1024. All tested resolutions worked.

Confirmed: 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080 1920x1200


==Singleplayer anomalies==

Some 2D screens are pillarboxed.

But others are stretched.

==Multiplayer support==

The demo does not come with multiplayer. Does FOV adjustment work in multiplayer?


==Aspect ratio support==

The game's aspect ratio automatically matches your resolution. The higher the aspect ratio, the higher the FOV needs to be to maintain hor +.

==HUD stretch==

The HUD stretches. This is most clear from the above three shots.


==Cut-scenes==

Cut-scenes are FMV, and they are anamorphic.

well.
changing the fov setting does not work for me on 1440x900 - samsung 940bw (1.05 EUR game version). no matter what i change the fov for (tried even above 100) it remains the native vertical minus. :cry:



1024x768 - 4:3 ( FOV 75 )



1440x900 - 16:10 ( FOV 85,28 )

as u can see, it just zooms in resulting in a vert"-".


lower resolution like 1280x800 can not even be setted. it changes back to 640x480 immediatelly i start the game (even if i set the ini file to readonly).:oops:

any idea what tha problem could be?? :shock:

You have to start the game from the beginning. If you quickload, it will use whatever FOV you had when you quicksaved. You can test this by setting your FOV to 1, and then beginning a new game. You will find that everything is *EXTREMELY* zoomed in.

As for 1280x800 not working, I'm willing to bet that this resolution just isn't in your drivers. Have you ever gotten 1280x800 working in any other fullscreen game before? Or even in Windows?

About the driver:
Yes, even in windows the only widescreen resolution is the native max of my monitor, 1440x900. The samsung or the nvidia driver could cause this?

Are you using DVI to connect your monitor to your Graphics card?

If you have VGA on your monitor use that and you should be able to get other widescreen resolutions.

Yes, I use my 7600gt through DVI to my samsung 940bw tft.

U mean i should use the analog connector insted? i could do that only with a dvi converter, because my vgacard only has dvi ports.

Keep the DVI cable. Use this tutorial to add 1280x800 to your drivers (and make sure you're using Forceware drivers from nVidia).
