While PC Power & Cooling PSUs look awesome, I think they are overpriced. Sure, they are high quality, but you can find other high quality PSUs for a lot less.

Well I have the 510 Turbo SLI from PC P&C personally and while yes the main arguement you would suffer right away trying to persuade general public into buying one would be the price you have to look much deeper into it.

First off for the model I have is 200$ the PSU's the "others" would be tossing at you as a better alternative are probably about 100-149$ so in a worst case scenario you looking at a product thats 2x more expensive.

Now for the points to be made:

I burned thru 2 100$ antec psus in 3 years and with a 1 year warrenty on each was out of luck and out of money. Since then I have had this PSU for 2 years now and had no worries, the Turbo series has a freakin 5 year warrenty!!! if they put a warrenty like that on it you knows its gonna last.

Now for that whole time I have it I know I not only have a product that will last but a higher quality one, I was able to fine tune the voltage pot's to exactly what I wanted and I show a .001v flux max on my psu with my multimeter.

Its nice to have somthing that nice since your psu is the foundation of your whole pc there is no reason to be cheap.

Also think of this - My Geforce 7800GTX was like 400$ and its already kinda outdated, but this 200$ PSU still has years and years of service left with me, and they have a no questions asked replacment policy if anything was to ever happen to it while under warrenty.

Im not trying to sell there psu's I dont get any money for it :P but I think people have a big misunderstanding as to what kind of value there really is there and the kind of market they are trying to appeal to.

note to everybody: I will update the guide some at a later time at home, I dont know what the deal is with my work PC but when ever I try to edit a post i cant keep the type cursor on screen it constantly scrolls up to the top of the input box so its a major fight to edit anything. I have some work to do on the wiki anyways :P

I woul recommend http://www.silentpcreview.com/ site for choosing powr supplies, they recommend Seasonics (of course) and new Zalman PSUs. I myself have 460W Zalman, and i am very satisfied with it. I choosed it over Seasonic 430W, as it certainly has 2 PCIe power connector, and it ill handle my upcoming Dx10 card.

nice one.

i have found in my travels that just about any time you get strange errors that can not be attributed to anything else, the psu is usually to blame.

when i started the first incarnation of my gaming box back in 2000, i spent an ungodly (at the time) $150 on my 431w Enermax .... and it is still going strong to this day. my choice was majorly determined by the reader reviews at newegg .... sadly, those are not as useful as they used to be.

I know that the next rebuild of my box will be a total one, and that i will probably have to replace everything except for my case and dvd burners. i might even go with a new case anyway. I know basically what parts i want to look at, except for the psu. no one really thinks about it - but it is probably the most important piece of kit in there - without it all you have is a dark lifeless box.

Yeah, but, I don't think anyone else actually makes 850w or 1000w PSUs...Which I believe some one can use...

Really, they are the best of the best, and probably a little overpriced. But still. :P

Also, I didn't read through, but is Fortron listed? They make good PSU's.

cheapy 500w psu - £30. With 1 year warranty

PC P&C 510w psu - £150. With 5 year warranty works the same. And its better. My way of looking at it. They are just good, its like anything high end, you have to to be able to justify the cost for the improvement.

A person on nFHQ has a 7950GX2 and a 650w Qtec (read SHITE) PSU, i suguested he got a good one and he was like "why?" and im saying, £400 on graphics card and your feeding it the shite from the £30 PSU? the cords are thin and very short (cutting corners) there are 3 fans in the unit because it doesnt have any heatsink worth talking about (cutting corners) and its got some of the worst ratings on the market (real ratings).

Very nice of you to share this info with us. PSU is often neglected in system builds and can often be the cause of errors later. :)

Really? I honestly didn't know that.

How long do you think until people will start to really use a 1000w PSU?

I think this would be perfect & be better placed as a Tutorial, How-To or Faq in the Tutorial section ??

(PM'd to PS)
