So I went and sent a mail to [email protected] as well after being disappointed in the lag of WS support in patch 1.4:

I've looked around a bit for a workable solution - and found that I can
employ any resolution I like - which is good. However the FOV is not
adjustable - which is bad.

You might consider that widescreen's are one of the fastest growing markets
for LCD displays, and having support for those displays will become
increasingly important...

Considering a wider FOV an unfair advantage is simply put much like
considering resolutions of 1600x1200 or above on some SLI/CrossFire setup
unfair - which it is. But you are not restricting those users at all, are
you ? ;o) Same thing could be said about stereo vs surround sound, low
latency internet connections, mouse dpi, etc.

Online multiplayer will _never_ be fair because you can't control the
circumstances under which people compete. You need controlled environments
for fairness... So what you basicly is doing is cripple your product in an
attempt to archive something which is impossible.

Hell - if you really want to come closer to fairness - you might consider
adding server-determined display (and other hardware) settings. So all
players joining a given server will play with the same settings. Then try
and log how many players join those servers employing the restictions...

CS (Source) - which I suppose is still one of the largest online FPS
communities - have native widescreen support. So I really fail to understand
why you guys havn't included the support in BF2 yet...

I've had great times playing BF2 but after I bought my widescreen I must
admit that the game have been gathering dust on my shelf. As far as I've
been able to find out, you have not even included native widescreen support
in BF2142 (including FOV to avoid image distortion) - which will mean one
thing for me. I wont buy it... With that many good online FPS's on the
market, widescreen support will be a deciding factor for me.

I would sure like to state my opinion on the EA forums as well, but the
topic regarding this request (for BF2) have been locked - after reaching 13
pages...(!) :

http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1453&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=180&sid=619e6007efcea84d74ab5f5b9adc8f4f

Anyway - I sure hope that you guys will include native widescreen support,
because I really like your work. But playing on brand new hardware and have
image distortion or 1/4 of the screen in black bars really kills my
interrest. Which of course is why I'm writing... because I care ;o)

Here's for hoping

Best regards

I didn't read through this whole thread so sorry if its been covered.

I just bought a Hanns-G 19" WS. Every time I tried BF2 it crashed shortly after the initial splash screen. I tried the [i]+szx [h] +szy [v][i] to no avail.

Both my vid card and monitor have DVI-D and VGA connectors so I thought I'd try BF2 with an analog signal. IT worked no problem.

So now I have both DVI and VGA connected and I use my Nvidia properties button in the taskbar to quickly switch between analog and digital signals to my monitor.

Not the fix I was looking for but it works until EA can get their act together to offer full WS and digital support for ALL their games.

Hope this helps someone.

So what was their answer? "We will fix it at the end of June?"

Actually, some "users" want to achieve exactly the opposite goal as we do here: Making EA/pb to consider using even the widescreen fixer as a cheat.

E.g.:

'm sorry, but its not 4:3 users fault the game doesnt support WS, and it certainly doesnt automatically give you the right hack in a wider view. Just because you can. Just like we 4:3 user will have to take it on the chin with games that do support WS. but this one doesnt, so its your side thats on D

And im gonna do all i can, to get this disallowed, as its my right to object. And im making it my duty, to make sure every 4:3 user is aware of this issue.

Read it up at this http://forums.filefront.com/fh2-suggestions/296226-fh2-widescreen.html
thread, if you want to.

Regards, wsfant

Uhuh.....so perhaps we should ban the telephone so the telegraph has a foot in the race?

Or maybe ban the cell phone because that mobile advantage is really unfair to the telephone.

Those people make my blood boil.

Also anyone with an over 2ghz CPU and 6800-series graphics card. Those faster framerates smooth the action too much for a fair playing field. AA and AF have to go too because a cleaner image is an obvious advantage. Drop the X-Fi support too because localized sound is like a wall hack, and any mouse over 400dpi must go as well because they're too accurate. And why not put a 60hz framerate cap so those pesky CRT users don't run it too smoothly?

There is no such thing as a level playing field in online gaming. Having a widescreen monitor is no more an advantage than a high-end computer when compared to a low end one. It's just that those TARDS are too thick to get that.
