I have never used portrait mode before. I am planning to get new monitors and I am trying to decide what layout to use.

I have not decided on monitor size yet. I'm currently debating between 27" and 30" if I go with landscape. I would go 30" for sure if the 30" monitor choices weren't so bad right now, but Asus's upcoming 27" 120hz at 1440p sounds like it will have the best mix of features/size available.

I've never used portrait orientation before so I am not sure if these are a good size in a 3x1 or 5x1 portrait configuration. Any wisdom to offer here?

So my question is landscape vs portrait. And if portrait, 3x1 or 5x1?

Hi,

A 3x1p Setup has nearly the same aspect ratio than a single 16:9 Monitor! IMHO you're better off with a 45"TV
Except you have less pixel (4k TV incoming) and worse refresh rate.

When I tried my 3 Dell U2311h in Portrait mode it took quite some time to adjust myself to the bezel. They feel way worse than in 3x1L and you don't have that much peripheral vision.

For 5x1P that's not as bad anymore, but you'd still want a Monitor with small bezels. For Racing or flight Sims no problem, but for shooters You might dislike the bezel.

I recently turned my three vs238h-p's from landscape to portrait. I like it a lot I feel its pretty neat. That being said the bezels are more annoying than in landscape.

My project for this weekend will be seeing how easily I can debezel them.
