AMD has released details about their new mobile graphics chip family, the Radeon HD 8000M. The series is the first mobile graphics chip to be built off of the "Graphics Core Next" (GCN), which has powered recent generations of desktop GPUs.

The core clock speeds on the chips range from 650Mhz - 850MHz, while memory speeds all exceed 1GHz. Three of the chips have 384 Stream Processors, while the HD 8800M has 640 Stream Processors. All support DX11.1.

The initial chips released in the "Solar" family are targets the "Performance+Gaming" and "Mainstream" segments. Additional releases in these segments, as well as the "Enthusiast" segment are scheduled for Q2 2013.

A few notebooks have been released with the new chips, but the new product stack will be featured in multiple designs as CES 2013. There was no word on release dates of new desktop GPUs.

One the slide set I received they are only listed as "GCN", not "GCN2" or "GCN 2.0". If it was GCN 2.0, I think that would get mentioned.
