I just recently bought The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena off Steam.

But when I started the game up it displayed in 800x600 in low settings. "No problem" I thought, "I'll just change the settings in options". I went to the options and found that my native 1920x1080 was not listed as an available resolution. The available resolutions only went up to 1360x768. "Well that's an annoyance" I said to myself, "I'll just go to the .cfg file and change the resolution to the proper one". So I went to where the .cfg file is located under appdata > local > atari > The chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena and set the Display to 1920 1080 32 60, then set the width and hight to 1920 and 1080 respectfully. When I started the game this time I could see right off the bat that it was NOT 1920 1080, and when I went to the options menu my suspicions were confirm. The options menu showed the resolution to be 1280x768. -_-

The weird thing was that 1920x1080 was not an option in under the resolutions, but when I tried switching to it, the resolution didn't change.

I've noticed that the review for this game on Widescreen forum says that 1920x1080 IS an available option for this game. So what am I doing wrong here? How can I get my native resolution to display?

My rig has an ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB RAM my display driver and CCC versions are up to date.

My monitor is an LG 42LD550, there are no drivers for my monitor since it's actually a 42" HDTV that I'm using as a computer monitor.

I'd appreciate any help that can be given. This problem is really starting to get on my nerves.

I've installed it with two different video card on various drivers and two windows versions. I was always able to use 1920x1200.. and with the crazy aspect ratio options it has, I'm very surprised to see you;re having trouble... can you run a lower 16:9 resolution like 1600x900 or 1650x945?

Could just be the Steam version. Perhaps the Steam forums has something...

But since you already paid for it, maybe find "another" version.

Quite surprisingly, I really enjoyed The game. enough to play through it twice. Then i got Dark Athena, my computer died, I got distracted, and I never did get around to play it... I'll have to give it a go when i finally get my freaking monitor stand. So at least your problem has brought some help to somebody :)

Edit: ahah , i went through the Steam forums a bit and all I found was someone else having teh same issue, and the only helpful response took me to WSGF: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/10378

So maybe it's just the Steam version, after all. Oh, maybe check your current video cards' driver release notes for bugs relating ot the game.

Edit 2: found one more with same issue, but I suspect that it's you... a user named "Zantetzou".

Hi,

i think the Problem is your TV - if you use a Widescreen TFT it will be running fine.

I tried the same thing like you with Gothic 3 and my Philips HDTV 42". Some Games wont even start with the same Resolution.

When i Plug my TFT back - Gothic 3 runs fine....strange.

Thank you for your reply,

That's an interesting idea, but I must confess ignorance of what you mean by TFT.

If I knew what that was I'd try it. :)

Thank you for the idea, I'll definitely check out steam forum to see if anyone has a similar issue.

In response to the resolution the highest I can get Assault on Dark Athena to display in is 1360x768. Assault on Dark Athena doesn't give me the option for anything higher.

Oh, interesting finding. I can get Chronicles of Riddick to play in 1920x1080 if I turn full screen off, then manually set the resolution in the .cfg file to 1920x1080.
