Don't deny you've always wanted to do this. Play through a pretty damn accurate Flash version of Super Mario Bros, but in addition to Mario, you can play as Link, Simon Belmont, Mega Man, Samus Aran, or that guy from Contra. The controls for each character are generally spot-on, recreating each character's sense of height, agility, momentum, traction, and jumping mechanics, and with a translated moveset that is both useful in the game and true to the character's abilities. Incidentally, this makes Simon Belmont's game really fricking hard.

Tons of fun to be had with this little gem. The author(s) did a terrific job with the various characters, although I don't remember Simon having a double-jump. Did I miss an iteration of Castlevania somewhere?

It's a borrowed ability from Symphony of the Night and/or later Castlevanias. You couldn't double-jump in any 8-bit Castlevania, but without it, Simon's SMB wouldn't even be possible.
