I liked the first one, it has really good multi monitor support with the hud position slider bar adjustment in the options and also the screen area setting so you can have menu's and stuff only span the center monitor and not go behind the bezels onto the other monitors.

Id say this was the landmark for multi monitor gaming and all other games should look up to this one and try to do it as good.

I was looking forward to the 2nd game a lot when I first heard it was coming out, but I expected it to be a totally new/different game (never played the originals)

I saw the trailer for it today and it looks like its exactly the same as the first game just with some newer stuff added (weapons, enemies, stages) as well as a few new modes to play on.

I found myself not playing the first game only after a short while since it was fairly short and rather repetitive and didnt seem to have the interaction you want in a multiplayer game. So not sure if I want to get the 2nd one. If I see some great 50% off sale I will get it for sure but even at the rather reasonable $20 price tag I do not think I am going to buy it.

Its like left 4 dead all over agian for me. I loved the first game but it got old after a while, when I got the 2nd game even though it was a lot better it got old 5x faster since it was nothing new. Actually L4D2 does have a lot of new stuff, new engine, and a lot of minor differences but it was the same concept. SS 2nd Encounter looks like a clone of the first with no changes at all though so its even going to be harder for me to accept it as a new game/sequel.

You guy's thoughts?

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter never was an actual sequel afaik. It's more like two chapters of one game. So yeah, it's pretty much more of the same. Ordered it anyway - only ever played The First Encounter.

I think there's been a Sam 2 as well at some point. Wikipedia tells me otherwise though, so I suppose it's just my mind playing tricks on me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serious_sam
Been plenty of other titles though, wow, never heard of those.

Anyway, looking forward to the release next week :)

That wikipage only lists the different versions of the First and Second Encounter, Serious Sam 2 was a whole new game, built on their new engine.
And yes, The Second Encounter wasn't a proper sequel, it was more of a Serious Sam: Part 2 kind of thing.
