I'm planning on running eyefinity, and I don't really wanna shell out for a 5850. I can get a 5770 for a decent price, just wondering if it'll be enough to play games at 4080x768 (1360x768) with max details?
If it can run Bad company 2 maxed at that resolution I'd be happy.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Here is a link to a good review comparing the different eyefinity models http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/01/05/amds_ati_radeon_eyefinity_performance_review/10

Here is a section from the article regarding the 5770:

Radeon HD 5770

The Radeon HD 5770 is what we would call under-performing for larger Eyefinity resolutions. Yes, the Radeon HD 5770 can run all Eyefinity resolutions, but in most games that is going to cost you a severe drop in image quality and thus the gameplay experience. Only in very few select games, or older games perhaps, the Radeon HD 5770 would work well. For example some older games, released 5+ years ago, might play very well on it at Eyefinity resolutions. Some newer games even like Left 4 Dead 2 also play well, but for the most part, it is underpowered for Eyefinity resolutions.

And in summary...

In summary, for Eyefinity gaming, most hardware and gaming enthusiasts do not want anything less than a Radeon HD 5850 with a resolution as large as 5760x1200. Obviously, lower resolutions with smaller multiple displays is going to give you overall better performance. Still, we think 5850 is going to be the "cut off" point for a great Eyefinity experience. If you can afford it, go with the Radeon HD 5870; it HardOCP’s preferred card.

Thanks, I've read that review already, the thing is they're using 5760x1200=6.912,000 pixels. I'm gonna be using 4080x768=3,133,440 pixels.
I'll be pushing less than half the pixels they did, so I can't really rely on their findings....

Well you can rely on it to some degree, cos for instance, halving the resolution may have more of an effect when you have limited memory available, where certain quality settings may not be attainable at all due to the lack of processing power.

There does not appear to be a be a good review on the card at those resolutions however.

I think you should save up for the 5850 if you want to run eyefinity with decent settings. The 5770 although a decent midrange card is not as fast as the last generation 4890. It has limited memory bandwidth which is going to hurt at high resolutions.

If you check this review http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5770-review-test/14 you can see the FPS taking a huge hit at resolutions above 1920 x 1200.

What monitors are you going to be using? I'm testing the 5770 now. I'm finding that Source Engine games still run great in 5040x1050 and 5760x1200, and even the Far Cry 2 benchmark hits 24 and 20fps respectively. And these are all 4xAA with max settings. Can't figure out BC2 would run (don't own it), and my monitors won't go to that low of a resolution.

I'm running a 32" LCD TV and a couple of Acer LCDs on the side. I'm pretty sure any monitor would be able to do 1360x768, but I guess because all of your monitors are capable of higher res, eyefinity won't let you do 4080x768?

Ibrin are you going to do a full benchmark review of the 5770? Or maybe some comparison benchmarks to compare it to the 5870 eyefinity in your other review?

Are ATI going to send you an eyefinity 6 for testing?

i used a 5770 for 3x 1920 x 1200 ... it worked fine for most games like fallout and il2 and BF2 and borderlands.. no problem.. but you will be severely limited by memory you can only put max 2x aa in most games, and good luck getting shadows ect without a slowdown.. if you OC it to 950mhz and 1400 ram, that helps alot, lowering the resolution helps too but you will still be limited severely on aa and af, if image quality is less important to you then 5770 will be fine, probably underpowered in 2 years.. a 5850 / 5870 will give you probably much better quality and last longer, and most games will run smoother.. but its definitely and option for you

I actually use my 5770 at 3840x1024 quite often which is pretty close in pixel count to what you're at. I can play Bad Company 2 at high settings and get about 28 fps but not really with any decent AA. I'm actually CPU limited, so you'd probably find it even more playable.

But it runs it well enough for me I'm not disappointed. I would prefer a 5850 for AA and 5760x1080, but my plan was to get a 5770 until I could afford another 5770 to CF since I had to buy monitors and still need a new CPU.
