I've been searching for a long time on the net trying to find information on all kinds of possible widescreen resolutions that work well with games, under 1280x720 and 1280x800. I'm sure many can relate with me in that those with less than the highest end graphics cards playing recent games are not having a lot of fun unless they're playing at lower resolutions.

I've seen many web sites posting different resolutions, and all I have tried have made text blotchy. It seems the lowest widescreen resolution I've found, where everything looks like it should is 1280x720.

A month or so ago I did stumble across someone who suggested a resolution, and I tried it and it really looked great. I added it as a custom rez and lost it when I upgraded my drivers. I can't remember what it was now (10xx by something).

I think it would be great to have a list handy (if it hasn't already been done) of all the really good widescreen resolutions under 1280x720. I've looked for rez's that match good old 800x600 and 1024x768 but just haven't been able to find any that really work (aside from that one I mentioned that I lost).

Can anyone direct me to a list or if you know, please share? Thanks in advance!

Here are the widescreen resolutions I personally have tried, but haven't really worked out. Crysis is the primary game I've tried these in:

848x480
960x600
1024x600
1024x640
1072x600
1088x612

Thanks, glad to be here.

I've seen that list and it doesn't have any 10xx resolutions listed, which is the one magical rez that I found worked well. Are there any good 10xx resolutions (besides the ones I listed in the first post) that work well for people?

Whats your native resolution of your monitor, half the resolution should work nicely.

Da Fox ... THANK YOU! What a concept, to halve the native resolution. For mine, it's 840x525, which does look great, but a little lower than I wanted. I then took 1680 and 1050 divided by 1.5 (instead of 2) and got 1120x700. It sounded kind of odd, and I've never run across that one before, but it's wonderful! Looks crisp and clear and just what I wanted.

Thanks again for all replies.

I think technically it needs to be half the native res. both vertically and horizontally to really work. The idea being that each pixel of the image will become 1 pixel on the larger image, as a 2pixel by 2 pixel square.

Grats on finding a res. that suits you though.

I really wish both video card makers and game makers would simply allow anyone to set any res. they want. Have a basic list of pre-sets sure but why artificially limit what someone might want to do? Beyond having refresh rates and other monitor limits to prevent damage, theres really no reason that I see.
