QuakeCon 2012 Recap
Back from QuakeCon! What a great first time. Learned some things for next year and have some things I want to do.
First off, once again, I need to thank the Plantronics GameCom guys for the seats. They gifted Zencyde and I some cool swag, one thing being the Plantronics GameCom 780s, which I will hopefully get around to reviewing soon. Hint: I love them.
Next, a good ol' fashioned howdy to all the people we met at QuakeCon. So, to all of the new visitors, lurkers, old members, and such... "Howdy!"
We had lots of cool things to see and lots of cool people to meet. We actually got to meet and talk with a former member, Drakino. He made one of the first fixers for the WSGF, the Game Resolution Switcher (GRS). Now, he works for Vigil Games making the things we love to play. We also met some lurkers of the forum. Though you don't talk, we still love you. We were able to talk to a lot of people that were interested in multi-monitor gaming. Hopefully, they will stick around, too, and learn as much as they can.
We also got to check out some cool things out now and will be out in the future.
A quick sample of things we saw that are interesting:
MinecraftEdu - Minecraft in the classroom! This is one something I am excited for. Using Minecraft for educational purposes. As an educator as well as a gamer, this takes two worlds I am interested in and puts them together. Zencyde managed to score me a code, so I can try it out and see how I can apply it to my field.
Dishonored - The upcoming game. Looks very interesting. I did not get a chance to play it, but it did look fun. Seemed to be kind of down my alley. Stealthy-ish ninja assassin shooter. I can dig it.
Oculus Rift - The thing everyone has been talking about. An amazing VR experience. Check out my video below to see it in action for yourself.
So, a good first year at QuakeCon. I am already planning on next year: a case mod, get known more, be there earlier. Lots of good stuff in the works.
Oh, and magnets!
