I have three monitors and want to use them all for gaming. I've tried to set up an Eyefinity display group to do this but my only options are 1x2 and 2x1. I have two 5770 graphics cards crossfired. Do I have to have one using a display port? Is that why I don't have an option for 3x1?

Please note I am NOT a computer expert. I've been teaching myself through this whole process but do not know much about computer engineering. I've only heard about this "display port" recently, and it seems none of my monitors have one. Thanks for any help.

To use Eyefinity, all the monitors must be connected to the same video card. So yes, you need to use at least one displayport connection.
(Connecting 2 monitors to one video card and 1 monitor to the other will not work)

Likely, you don't have any displayports unless your specifically bought a monitor with one. So you'd need an "active" adapter.
Your cheapest solutions is either an active VGA to Displayport adapter or an active single-link DVI to Displayport adapter. I've had bad experiences with VGA to Displayport adapters flickering.
I recommend an active single-link DVI to Displayport adapter.

You can find a list here: http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx
Probably the cheapest thing you can find is this: http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-005B-DisplayPort-Single-Link-Certified/dp/B004071ZX0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318379832&sr=8-1

Hope this helps.

Man, that sucks. Will keeping the two cards crossfired help with performance?
I will get an adapter and try that... these cards (5770s) can handle three monitors as long as one of them is from the display port?

Yes, you can enable crossfire with Eyefinity so keeping the second card will certainly help. Both cards will render, just all the physical outputs is off of one video card.

Yes, a single 5770 can handle three monitors (two on DVI and one on Displayport). Two 5770s can actually handle six monitors (three on each video card), but for eyefinity, you need all monitors connected to the same video card, meaning you can only do 3 monitor eyefinity with the setup you have.

Awesome, thanks. I've ordered that converter. Someday I'll probably get a monitor with a display port, but until then I'll be good to go. Thanks for your help.
