Anyone knows if Sid Meier's Railroads! has widescreen support or if the config file can be modified to support widescreen properly?

Yes. It supports native widescreen resolutions. Both 1400x900 and 1680x1050. Looks great too!

Any chance of getting comparison shots, at say 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 (at the same point) to show whether it is Hor+ or Vert- ?

Scratch that. I just played the 1701 A.D. demo, and it'll defintely be my next building/tycoon/strategy game. The demo also supported 1680. =)

The hud scales properly and doesn't stretch. However your view is a mix of Hor + and Vert -

It's a moot point however, you can zoom in and out with the mouse wheel so it doesn't really matter one way or the other.
