Hey All,

In Quake 4 game, when I enable this option, I don't see any performance decrease (and lowered FPS - I get 60 to low 80 FPS) in the game. Is this option enabled at all? How can I make sure it is enabled? Is a 256MB card capable of handling this setting?

Many thanks in advance.

Here are my system specs:

-DFI nF4 SLI-DR 'Expert'
-Opteron 146 (CABNE 0530 batch)
-Thermalright XP-90C
-Delta 92x38mm FFB0912HHE 2-wire (Got the 3 Wire version!)
-G.SKILL Extreme Series 2GB DDR (G.SKILL F1-4000USU2) 2GB
-Enermax 620W PSU 'Liberty'
-74GB WD Raptor Hdd (revision 00FLC0)
-Pioneer DVR-A09-XLB
-Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS
-Gaming Bomb II (Black Colored)
-DELL 24" 2405FPW LCD
-eVGA 7900 GT CO SUPERCLOCKEDâ„¢ 256-P2-N565-AX'

There is virtually no difference between the Ultra and the High textures in Quake 4. As far as I know, the High textures are of the same resolutions as the Ultra ones, but compressed. Think of converting a bitmap to a high-quality JPEG - you will hardly see a difference.

Thanks! Why is there at first place then? I MUST do something, don't you think? :)

I'm not sure, maybe for benchmarking purposes? o_O

But yeah, I think the newer cards have absolutely no problem with the Ultra-quality settings anymore.

Ultra uses uncompressed normal maps. High compresses them. Frankly, there is bugger all difference between the two...

The "ULTRA HIGH QUALITY" textures in Q4 and D3 use 512 meg worth of textures. Basically if you've got a card with at least 256mb onboard you should be fine, and with 512 your laughing.

Personally though, ive always run it on high as ive never seen the point in giving my system extra work to do for no payoff :)
