Hm... I read that differently, McKie... the chap is basically saying that entry level people don't care about new stuff (true, as they're still using Intel Integrated or GeForce 8200/9400 or ATi 2400/3400...)

However, he seems to be implying that the 'high-end' early adopters who usually buy the top-end gaming cards are on par with workstation users... that makes me worry about two things: cost and availability.

What I really want to see are current nVidia cards in stock (most of the e-tailers I look at in the UK have almost all of the GT200 cards on backorder) and I want to see prices drop. When I can find a 5850 for £210, and a 5870 for £285, it's disheartening to find GTX285's for £270-330, and GTX295's for £330-400. Of course, I'm also a bit annoyed that the 4800 series have essentially vanished...

Maybe I'm reading to much into it , I dont know ,but I have also noticed as you said most all current GTX 200 cards are on back order until march. and with very high prices to boot.

I have 1000.00 USD in pocket right now. waiting for the next Gen Nivida card but I am beginning to wonder if that will even cover what they will be charging for an SLI set.

I have come across a few articles mentioning extremely low yields and massive technical problems. They may have an axe to grind against Nvidia so i take them with a grain of salt. Even the less pessimistics are expecting high prices and very low availability. One source even mentions that there would only be 5000 to 8000 first generation cards produced.

If any of half of what has been said about GF100 is true, the chip has problems. nVidia pulling the fake-card-with-wood-screws trick didn't help matters in the slightest. What is really funny is the battle between Charlie Dimerjian and nVidia PR. We'll see when the cards are released who was right... but I'm beginning to think that waiting for GF100 is a bad idea and a waste of time - I think we have another GeForce FX coming...

I think your right.

Even so. I have heard enough. that if this card was released tomorrow. I would be waiting a while before I would get it. To much of a gamble to be one of the early birds.

Merged into existing thread. The PC Games Hardware box shots show that the 480 will have 1.5GB of RAM.
