Cranky is just in denial. :)

Its called confusion.

We have two comparisons showing very different results.

While I completely believe with you that 16:9 and 1280x720 in particular are the lead 'default' being that they have stated that the platform which they developed for in the beginning was the 360.

And really they have done a pretty good job with the widescreen.

Any non Hor± screens could simply be overlooked by the programmer, whether the glass is half full or half empty, its still not as good as a full glass.
But I do not and will never believe the 'developers vision' was for the lockpick (or any of Tanuki's shots in question) to scale vertically rather than horizontally like the rest of the game.

What I think this needs is other people to post their experiences with the screens in question. I would but im not planning on picking it up for a while. I mean it really is quite the mystery especially if other people have conflicting results.

Of course. I'm not saying the developer wanted the lockpick screen to scale vertically. I'm saying that when you look at it, it's safe to assume that what you see in 16:9 is the desired look. So to correct 4:3, 5:4, or anything else, you would need to match it to look like it does for 16:9. You should not change the 16:9 view to how it looks in 4:3.

The reason why I believe mine are right and Tanuki's are wrong is simply that I've not touched a single console variable to tweak the interface in any way. This is the way the game just looks for me. To reinforce that that is the intended way it's supposed to look, the Xbox 360 version of the game acts exactly the same. So it's pretty safe to say that the set of screenshots I've provided are the game default.

Cranky is just in denial. Smile Mine would be more accurate because they not only are unmodified from the PC, but the Xbox 360, as well.

Tanuki's are also unmodified from the PC. Your inclusion of 360 shots do not explain the discrepancy in the PC version shots, nor do they prove that "default" behavior (or even "intended" behavior) on PC is like that.

The reason why I believe mine are right and Tanuki's are wrong is simply that I've not touched a single console variable to tweak the interface in any way.

Tanuki didn't either in his first version of the DR, which demonstrated vert - behavior in those screenshots. It wasn't until after P-Storm posted that we knew about the benefits of changing FOV variables of this game.

The pic is down but I think you mean 1440x900 not 1400x900. If you can select it from the desktop you should be able to sleect it from the launcher under 16:10 resolutions.

I have talked to some Triplehead users via PM and they confirm the character select screen is Vert - for them.

Dopefish - What is your desktop resolution and what resolution are you selecting(1024x768?) when you take the 4:3 shots? I have noticied that some resolutions I select will actually display other resolutions letterboxed. Perhaps you have aspect scaling enabled and something is amiss.

I could also try and reproduce your configuration on my system.

Also, maybe post your two ini files?

Thanks Tanuki, I hastened to correct settings in the ini that quite forgot that the correct resolution is not 1400 a 1440)
Only when you reply to a message, came up to me where I was wrong.
and before that was sure that there were problems with drivers.

i verify ini and change 1400 to 1440) and this work for me/
thx you.

Correction: Cranky is as dumb as a doorknob. The game is primarily a 360 game. It was their target. Therefore, how the game looks on the 360 in 16:9 IS THE WAY THE GAME WAS DESIGNED. 16:9 acts the same on the PC, as well, so if there's any discrepancy between 16:9 and 4:3, 16:9 is the correct one and the one that you should be correcting the FOV to match.

The reason why I believe mine are right and Tanuki's are wrong is simply that I've not touched a single console variable to tweak the interface in any way.

Well, I've still not modified mine and that's the behavior that the game is giving me. It matches exactly with the 360 version.

As for the other questions, my desktop is 1680x1050, and I just chose 1024x768 because it auto-selected that when I switched the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3.

The standard FOV is pretty low, how does one permanently set it to a different value?
