The demo of EIC is out and yay - widescreen support is outstanding with native Hor+ and unstretched HUD.
In surround though, only the naval battles are Hor+ while the main world map is pillarboxed.

Weird... they knew of it, supported it, but then didn't follow through...

Oh well.

The support should be perfect in the final release version. Not only will the world map display at full triplehead resolution (no letterboxing), but the scroll feature (normally disadvantaged in RTS games w/TH) will be optimized as well.

Essentially there will be a "soft scroll" and "hard scroll" as you move across monitor bezels. Soft scrolling will displace the mouse across to the left & right screens, hard scrolling with move the entire world map once the mouse reaches the left & right bezel areas of the center monitor.

(hard to explain in text, but excellent for TH users!) :)

Thanks, that's good news. I didn't find the demo all that exciting but a hor+ world map with "hard scrolling" sounds good. Maybe I'll get that game, after all...

This game playes in the full version like a demo. There is not much you can do at all. I thought it might bring up some cool feauters, but didnt.
Tested 1 day in full 5040x1050 which actually was looking good. No crashing on my pc but thats all...

That's right, the full game is no different. :(
I can see none of the exciting features described by Mark B in my game, patched or not:
-no soft/hard scrolling of any kind.
-the "strategic view" is always pillarboxed - unless you disable the UI, which turns the game into little more than a screensaver.
Which basically means that the "world map" pictures on the official Surround Gaming site border on false advertising...

I've posted a thread on the official forum, but this game has so many bugs, big or small despite the frequent updates that I'm not sure the devs will really care about offering better Surround support anytime soon. :?:

Hmm, actually my Gamersgate version of the game is all glitchy, but the Impulse game works great in TripleHead :?

No pillarboxing and the map sure scrolls sideways when the cursor crosses the center bezels - no need to reach the outer edges of the display. Pretty neat.
I don't know why my previous install wouldn't work correctly yet, but I know I owe EiC (and Matrox?) a nice little DR.
