Good Day to all! I am new to this site and forum.

I have a Westinghouse L1916HW 19" widescreen that natively runs 1680x1050@60hz.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 plays at this resolution by in-game selection, but I want to play BF2 (have ver 1.41: 1.1.2965-797.0). On my Gateway laptop (17.5" WS), I can select 1440 resolution and BF2 runs fine and looks great.

On my desktop with the Westinghouse, I can only select 1280x960 from in-game and the CMD line changes did not work. It didn't appear to do anything.

Using WS Fixer 1.32 from this thread likewise appeared to have no effect at all

Also modding the video.com file to either 1680x1050 or 1440 resolution causes a CTD when I log into my profile. The game runs fine at 1280 res until that point. Basicly: start game, intro videos, welcome/login screen, login, then CTD. The screen goes black like the game is trying to switch res just before CTD. Change the video.com file back to 1280 and the game runs fine.

I upgraded my computer in March to this:

Raidmax Smilodon Gaming Case (500w PSU) (new)
Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L Mainboard (new)
4GB Ram (new)
Intel E5200 Dual Core @2.5MHz (new)
Nvidia 9800GT 512RAM PCI-E (new)
WD Raptor WD740GD SATA 10K RPM (existing)
Windows XP SP-3 (existing)
SB X-Fi PCI audio (existing)

This is a fresh install of the OS and all programs. All hardware are using the latest drivers/updates available from the web as of last month.

I know this rig is not the best in terms of the latest components, but I came up from a P-4 AGP machine.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. My son has my older hardware and is running BF2 at 1280x1024 (native) on a MultiSync LCD1970GX (non-WS) on a tiny 40GB ide drive and his game looks better than mine.

Just to clarify, you are having problems with Battlefield 2, correct? Are you also having issues with Star Wars Battlefront 2?

Does BF2 run correctly in windowed mode? (instructions here: http://www.genadmission.com/windowed.html)

The command line I used on my old WS monitor looked like this:
Code:
BF2.exe +szx 1440 +szy 900 +menu 1 +widescreen 1

Is this the syntax you tried?

It might be best to uninstall BF2 and start clean if you are getting CTDs just by editing the video.con file. Do I understand correctly that the game will run OK if you do not edit this file?

Would a mod split this off into a support thread, please? I think this issue goes beyond the fixer program.

Thank You for the welcome.

#1: Yes, the probem is with Battlefield 2, Battlefront 2 runs well with no issues and allows me to choose 1680 x 1050 from the in-game menu.

#2 When I ran it in windowed mode, it defaulted to full screen but offset By this I mean it is in a window but imagine if you manually maximize a window and then drag it 1-inch to the right and 1-inch down. Some of the window is no longer visible. That is how it looked. I could not "drag" the window over and could not manually change its size. It was like it was frozen in place. I chose a map with no one on it and it loaded fine, but since I couldn't see the "Join Game" button, I couldn't click on it to enter the map and see if the controls worked. I could only right click on the taskbar icon and select "close" and it shut down immediately without pause.

#3 My command line looked like this:
BF2.exe +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050
I reversed it to match yours and it did not seem to make a difference.

#4: Yes, my game CTD's when loggin into my profile if I edit the video.con file apparently to anything higher than 1280x9??. If I leave it alone, the game runs fine.

I took screen shots of Karkand using the modded shortcut and the standard shortcut. The difference between the two pictures appears to be the aspect ratio is sightly wider on the modded S.S., but the image quality appears to be the same even though one should be 1680x1050 versus 1280x960.

Regards,

GSXRMan

Widescreen Fixer v1.49.0 has been released.

1.49.0:
* I have not had EB test this version. Use at your own risk.
* Added support for Call of Duty: World at War v1.5 (Single-Player)
* Added support for Call of Duty: World at War v1.5 (Multi-Player)

1.48.5 (Never released):
* I have not had EB test this version. Use at your own risk.
* Added in checks for FOVs of 1.0, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 for Battlefield 2. This will hopefully allow mods like Forgotten Hope to be used with correct field of views. Note that this may mess with default game settings with Battlefield 2. If you come across any problems while playing Battlefield 2 regularly, let me know ASAP so I can fix it.

I missed that you have added support for UT3. Are the surround resolutions still limited in terms of FOV (something like 130 I think), or have you found a way around this?

Either way, excellent work!

It works okay. The main problem is that guns are still clipped off and the FOV in vehicles can get a little wacky at times (I think just the Dark Walker but maybe others). It also only works for v1.1 at the moment.
