It's possible that newer units come with updated firmware already installed.

I received the patch from Matrox today and it works fine :D

No problems here with downloaded firmware:

- I stopped "Matrox Power Desk SE"
- I verified that my backup file was over 500kb
- I flashed to new firmware and rebooted - everything works and single screen in now in the middle (screen2) instead of left (screen1)

I purchased my th2gde from buy.com on 12/16 it still had the "left screen firmware"...

Stupid question here:
I would like to do this today. Can anybody tell me how to make the "backup" I need. Is the file at the beginning of this post safe to use? Thanks

hey sorry for the slow reply I haven't been watching this post.
when you run the package it gives you three options
view readme
CREATE A BACKUP FILE
update your matrox hardware
So:
1. Turn of Matrox PowerDesk SE: click on the icon in the task bar and hit exit
2. Start MtxGXMUtilities.exe (the one on the first page is OK)
3. Select create backup NOTE: if you have an error creating the backup- which I have everytime with the version downloaded from this site AND the one sent direct from Matrox- I really wouldn't recommend trying to cahnge the firmware I have tried all sorts of things to get this to work but it never has for me. There must be something in my PC messing it up. I had to send mine back to be reloaded with the old firmware as well the muppets grrrr!
4. IF you have a successful backup and it is about 520kb (mine always fails and end up 1kb) then load the newout.pkg included.
Good luck!

Download the updater, and I'm having the same problem where everytime I try to create the backup it fails after 1KB. If you ever find out how to fix it, please let me know! Or if someone has a backup.pkg that they created and they don't mind sharing it, that would work too. Thanks!

Don't bother with someone elses backup package. In my experience if the backup doesn't work then the flash will ruin your unit- I had to send mine to matrox. No TH2Go for a month

What I ended up doing is hooking my TH2Go up to my other computer (only the USB port) and installing the firmware update on that one. Worked like a charm, even though the firmware update kept giving an error on my gaming rig. Hope that helps someone else!

Thx Billes

I 've encountered the same problems updating the firmware. A no go on backup. Hooking it up (the complete TH2Go) on my second system did the trick. 8)
