[quote][quote][quote]Hmm, FEAR runs at a constant FPS of about 60 on my 1900XT with everything at highest and VSYNC on. :|

But what resolution are you on? Theres no way 1900xt could do that with 1680x1050.
Well, I'm even on a 1920 x 1200 screen. I do have AA on 2x I believe, perhaps that's why it runs so smooth.

Wow - that's pretty impressive. I didn't think the 1900xt could do that - xtx maybe, but that's pretty good! You have soft shadows off though right? That's what I was doing wrong - soft shadows on and AA on full :)
Before my X1900XT decided to spontaneously bork itself, 1920x1200 2xAA everything at max but soft shadows was perfectly doable. As said, soft shadows murders your framerate.

Ok FEAR is driving me crazy in Vista. I am getting VERY poor performance in Vista compared to XP. In XP, with my 8800GTX, I am able to average well over 100FPS in the performance test with everything at maximum (except soft shadows) running at 1920x1080. In Vista, I only average around 30-40FPS at the same settings. I have been scouring the web looking for a fix or others with the same issue. Apparently I am the only one who has this problem (or the only one who noticed) besides one review of Vista game performance on Extremetech who saw similar issues.

The comparisons I have seen showed FEAR as one of the few that took a real FPS hit in Vista, but even then nothing like you're talking about. I have seen things like 90fps on XP and 75fps on Vista, that sort of thing.

As I said above, my FEAR runs pretty nice, though I have never clocked it since upgrading my rig. I might do that for you later.

I wonder whats going to happen when the 120hz lcds hit the market? Vsync on would mean you would have to maintain 120FPS constantly... Otherwise it would half it to 60, right?

I can't see ANY video card out right now running the upcoming DX10 games at 120FPS on 22" or 24" widescreens - maybe not even FEAR with full settings.

is this true?

yes. turn vsync off.

and the 120Hz LCD's will have to be amazing in order to have enough processing power to do 1920x1200 @ 120Hz, i do believe thats out of the bandwidth or refresh rate of the feed (DVI or HDMI) so quite what they do to get you 120 refreshes per second is probibly not going to need 120 fps. i play css with 100Hz on the crt in sig, and i get a proper 100fps down the VGA cable, and at 1024 i get 75Hz down the DVI. i can get 200Hz down VGA.

i think your fear problem is a little odd. like steefy i get like 65 fps on the rest maxed out details with 2xAA, however it doesnt have soft shadows. if you have enough time to look at the shadows when your playing the game then put up with the FPS loss. if you dont, and just want to finish the game then turn them off.

Yeah that was my problem with FEAR. Using soft shadows and full AA. Turned off soft shadows and everything's cool now.
