well bought the game also and have to say i was dissapointed in the opening level/sewer. my lcd just didnt give good blackness so i needed to play with a torch in order to make it looking nice. overall iam very happy with this game although i wish it was longer day time and less dark time.

Anybody else try manually adjusting the FOV yet? Whats good for our monitors?

Check this guide for the FOV and other stuff:

I figure if he thinks 90 is good for a normal monitor....120 is good for us?

I set mine to 80 at a 16:10 aspect ratio. The FoV number in Oblivion seems to be lower than it seems to really be. 80 looks about right in my opinion.

We have essentially the same systems. I wouldn't exactly say that your 4200+ X2 is your bottleneck. The game is dual core optimized so I would imagine that your CPU is better suited than even Paradigm's 4000+ single core. The game is just bleeding edge as far as the technology goes. This game will tax ANY system out there now.

Just tried it on my Core Duo laptop... the graphics card isn't up to it, really... it's not a whole lot more playable than on my 2500+ Athlon XP box. Trying to run high resolutions in this game requires a monster of a PC...

Paddy, you wouldn't have an FX-60 you could lend me, would you? ;) (Or an FX-57...)

To Paradigm: The distant land textures look kinda crappy even on "Ultra High" settings, but people have been tweaking their .ini files to make the game look even better as far as distant textures go. (at a cost of framerate). I personally havent messed with it, because I don't really want to make the game perform worse. This is one future-proofed game. We won't likely see the game in all it's potential splendor for a few generations of hardware.

That's cool... I was wondering what it would be like in that regard... thanks. :)

About the HDR and AA on an X1900, i can confirm you CAN NOT run them together.

Thanks. Maybe I'll hold off until the new cards come out. I hear that they're only 3-4 months away.

Of course, I said that about 3-4 months ago....

About the HDR/AA thing... it isn't a problem with ATi... it's a problem with the way the game was coded.

This is because of the FP32 precision that ATi uses, while nVidia use FP16...

Correct, so if we're lucky they make a patch for it so we can enjoy the game with HDR and AA on after all. :P :D

If we're lucky.

If we're not, then we're lumbered.

I still think it looks good, though; although I prefer a low amount of AA to using HDR...

The graphics card would have more effect that any other upgrade, I think.

However... you 'downloaded' it? We didn't want to know that.
