Hello!

I just recently bough a new video card (EVGA 7800GS OC SC AGP... Still waiting for it in the mail).

I now strongly think about buying a widescreen monitor (the Benq FB202W) with a native resolution of 1680x1050.

The problem is, I looked at the resolution chart for the 7800GS and it does not state this resolution in the chart... Does this mean that the 7800GS in not compatible with the widescreen monitor???

I am new to this whole widescreen scene. I searched for an answer on the net but didn't find anything.

Can you point me to the right direction?

Thank you very much in advance. :D

Every graphics card you can buy at the moment supports the 1680x1050 resolution, so don't worry.

Even if this resolution is not on the resolution chart of the card manufacturer?

I really can't imagine a 7800 series card doesn't support 1680 x 1050.
Don't worry about it. It really is supported.

Nice screen btw, i have it and it's the bomb. 8)

One issue that i found recently, trying to get games to work at a particular resolution, is that you can add a particular resolution to nVidia drivers (and presumably ATI ones too) to tell it to work at a particular resolution.
My 6800 automatically detected and worked at 1680 x 1050, but I told it also to do 1280 x 800 as an option.

Thank you for your reply, ctrlsteef.

BTW, I just read your review of the FP202W. You mentioned that the power supply was doing some noise. Is it that bad? I watch a lot of movies on my computer and I usually try to keep the level of noise that my machine is doing as low as possible...

If this screen is making noise, I might consider another one...

It's not really noticable as it was before but i can still hear is.
But i believe this is a problem only i have. I heard of some other people that also have this screen who have no problems with this at all.

I have a BFG 7800GS OC
and it supports high res on the vga port only.
the manual says it only supports 1600 x 1200 on the dvi port(not dual link) on the BFG.
I'm running a 24" hp widescreen crt and it'll drive it all the way up to
2304 x 1440 @80 Hz
i'm running it at 2048 x 1280 @85 right now and it plays ut2004 at
around 75 to 85 fps

Hum...

Is it that bad to plug a widescreen monitor thru VGA? Do you see a great image difference with a DVI connection?
