Hi, sometime in the next 2 months I plan on building a new computer, and graphics card I'm looking at is the Nvidia GeForce 7950GT. Sometime after that I'll be wanting a new monitor, and I'm thinking about getting a widescreen. I still play old games like Starcraft and Diablo 2 and I'd like them to fill the whole screen vertically but keep the same aspect ratio (so it has the black bars on the side, I hate stretching). I noticed on the forum that this is easy to accomplish on most Nvidia cards, but it seems as though the drivers for the 7900 series don't support this feature for whatever reason. Can anyone tell me if this is also true of the 7950, and if so, if there is another workaround or if I'm just better off getting a non-widescreen monitor? Thanks for any help!

I have a Dell 2407WFP and a new GeForce7950GT.

The monitor gives me the choice of running games at a 1:1 ratio, a fill the screen mode and a fill the screen but keep the aspect ratio.

For example a 1600*1200 game at 1:1 runs with black bars left and right.

A 1024*768 resolution at 1:1 runs centered with black on all sides. Keep aspect ratio takes that resolution, fills it top to bottom with black on the left and right. Fill the screen, does just that, and distorts the image.

I'm not sure the video card really matters. I ran these test with Rise of Nations. Several games I have don't run in widescreen but run just fine at 1600*1200 with 1:1 aspect ratio. In the few weeks I've owned the 7950 there have been no issues in running games at the game supplied resolutions.
