I think you're all underestimating how much of a hassle Steam can be for people on poor connections. I know; I used it for six years on terrible dial-up. I won't be using it again for that reason and others. The number may be few, but there are people out there that feel the same way I do.

Let's not forget steam's annoying habit of refusing to start at all, the only fix to delete the .blob files and have to relog altogether to start it again.

I don't really see what the point is. Why would you play non-Steam HL over Steam HL?

I have it on Steam BUT

I wanted to play Half Life on my LAN with some old computers,.

I wasnt going to install Steam on them so I just used the Half Life CD I have to install it on a P3 733Mhz 256MB RAM and 3 other computers, 2 of them have widescreen monitors.

I think the Steam version wont let u use 1 cdkey to play on LAN at home.

I need help with this. my displays always on 1920x1080 and when start a game with my psychical copy it shows a low resolution portion of my desktop and I hear sound from the game. I would like to at least learn to open it into a window. I have toyed with the games display settings and my graphics setting but I cant figure it out.

some people already own a psychical copy and rather not buy another. some dont like steam at all. some prefer a psychical copy.
