Hello,

I'm in a similar situation as Ulfghuld. I'm considering one of the new 34" curved monitors, but I will also likely need a new graphics card. My current setup uses an old Nvidia GTX 590 with 3GB of RAM.

I'd like to get a new 34", but I'm concerned about the new Freesync/G-Sync technology and the fact that none of the monitors seem to have it. I've also been an Nvidia guy forever, but Freesync seems to be the superior technology.

So I guess my questions are these: Does anyone know of a curved 34"-ish monitor either out or coming out that supports G-Sync or Freesync? Should I wait 6 months or so and see what is around the corner? Do the technologies make that much difference?

If I'm upgrading now, what card or cards should I consider? My budget is $2000-2200 for both the monitor and card(s).

Are there any practical differences between the LG 34UC97 and LG 34UC87? I'm not likely to use the included stand on either one.

Thanks,
Simon

We have been gaming for years without g-sync or free-sync and we didn't need it.(IMO) I have the dell and love it. as far as the card the more ram the better. I have 2 6g cards (780) and some games use upwards of 5g at 3440 x 1440.

I haven't had a chance to try out freesync, but GSYNC is definitely a great addition. As far as a curved monitor supporting GSYNC, I'm afraid I don't know of any at the moment.

Hey Zealot,

Acer are releasing the 34" Acer Predator XR341CK apparently by the end of summer. It has a curved screen with G-sync and most importantly 144hz. Panel type used has yet to be announced, but the recently released a 16:9 144hz IPS model so I live in hope the 34" will also be IPS. I think this is the best option announced to date for a 34" gaming panel.

I have never tried either G-sync & Freesync, but from what I understand both methods are designed to sort tearing etc. at lower than 60,FPS...I think with a 120-144hz panel and decent GPU(s) capable of keeping a minimum FPS over 75-80 FPS keeps things buttery smooth both G-sync & Freesync are not even necessary.

I'm in the same boat as you-planning a GPU & screen upgrade and am keen to go to 21:9. I have a 3 x 27" surround 120hz setup, and under no circumstances will be going back to 60hz for gaming. :lolno:

My plan is to hold out for the Acer-or if else better comes out in the meantime, and to go for 980ti's when they come out-damned if I'm paying 1200 for Titan X'..

Thanks! Just found a new article on it yesterday:
http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/gpu ... _monitor/1

$1500 for the G-Sync version seems a bit steep, but I might have to save some more!

I kind of sold myself on the Titan, particularly if they are cheaper in a few months. My reasoning is that the 3440x1440 monitors use about 5GB of Vram. If I'm ever able to afford an SLI arrangement with multi-monitors the three monitors will be using somewhere around 15GB of Vram. The dual Titans (12GB ea.) will give me more overhead than the dual 980s (8GB ea.).

I was looking at these as well as the R9 295s. I'm going to have to see some more reviews before I believe the 290 beats a Titan. Single R290's don't appear to have enough memory to run 3440x1440 and I'm leary of the water cooling on the R295.

That said, since it appears that the I may be waiting 'til August for a monitor, the R300's should be out and I'm interested to see what they produce. If they have DP 1.3 (Titan X only has 1.2) I will almost certainly get it providing it has enough Vram (8GB+).
