Just a quick question. I run eyefinity triples on an iMac i5 3.1ghz with a 1gb 6970m (mobile variant) GPU. Its not a power house like many systems others have here but it does with a bit of tweaking.

I've been offered another iMac with a i7 3.4ghz and a 2gb 6970m GPU. I've searched high and low here on WSGF and other forums but can't seem to get definite benchmarks of the difference between 1gb and 2gb on Eyefinity merely people stating go with the 2gb.

Any opinions. I'm playing DCS & FSX flight sims, iRacing, RaceRoom Experience and hopefully Assetto Corsa. I also play a lot of FPS BF3 & 4 (running 1280x720 on mostly high settings) but I don't see the point of triples in those games personally. Would there be a large FPS boost in the sim games on triples or resolution on FPS games on a single monitor going from a 1gb to 2gb GPU.

I know I can get a pc which would obliterate the mac but for work I have to deal boot Win 8 & OSX. Cheers.

No!

You won't get a single FPS more with 2gb VRAM instead of 1gb!
The more VRAM will only increase the limit when your card breaks down!
If you hit a VRAM limit ingame your FPS will drop to 1-5FPS maximum. But most of the time you will have a GPU limit.

Thanks for the info. I'm kinda surprised. I completely get that a less powerful GPU with more vram will give less FPS than a more powerful GPU with less vram (within reasonable limits) but I thought running Eyefinity at 5040x1040 or 5760x1200 would cause a 1gb Vram frame buffer to be completely used up causing the game to use system ram whereas a 2gb vram buffer would be more beneficial in terms of being able to use higher settings or getting more fps at lower settings where the GPU's are the same model.

Is that completely stupid of me?
