for those who have been waiting, I found this article and it looks promising: Article.
At this point I don't even care that the HUB is so Big and externally powered, I'd buy it right now so I can finally upgrade to a 7970 and do 5x1 Portrait 30".
From what I can see, these hubs allow you to mix resolutions, and orientations. You are probably still bandwidth limited, but this allow for more ports off your card. In fact, it's just like having more ports off your card, I don't believe there will be any PLP support beyond what is currently already here.
Enjoy the read, it's good.

The last actual content I've seen (unofficially) from AMD on this was in a reddit thread where I posted complaining about the lack of MST hubs despite AMD constantly advertising features that require these devices. Here's my post, and here's the response:
I actually work for AMD, in the GPU division, so I can give you some insight on what's going on.
AMD GPUs are designed with DP1.2 MST, as you are obviously aware. Any monitor or monitor hub that is also MST-aware will enable the end user to connect up to three DP monitors per DP output.
The holdup is with the people who are actually making the DP hubs. Silicon issues first prevented them from getting hubs that even worked. Then they sorta worked, but only if you connected cables in a certain order and then powered on the PC (no hotplugging). Then they made hubs that were about twice the size of a Boxee Box (huge). Now they're in the process of miniaturization. We've been told we'll see retail models by the summer of this year, and we demonstrated some at the press even we held for the 7900 Series in Austin in December.
The reality is that we're at the mercy of the people who make the adapters, hubs and cables. We can push and pressure, but we can't make someone else's business do something any faster. We don't make these kinds of products, so there's no economy of scale to do it ourselves.

Judging from the age of the article linked here in the OP, not much progress has been made. Still vapor.

The most usable I can get is 7680x1440@58Hz with the overhead removed.

Not to dog VESA spec group, but whoever they got collaborating with them on the MST hubs are inept. These should of been out at the same times as the 6000-series cards in October 2010. (Along with significantly better adoption of the DP 1.2 port into displays and projectors). I fail to see the problem. HDMI requires a license tribute fee, while DP does not. The port spec is free.

One thin cable from PC to MST HUB on backside of monitors + 3 short cables to connect them

I am curious about 4K display on one cable. Can I plug 6 of them to one card and get 12K x 6K res ?

I wonder if these vapor-ware MST Hubs will come to market before the 89xx series GPU.

Go bizLink!

http://www.i-newswire.com/bizlink-techn ... ort/201653

Judging by the amount of people out there looking for the mythical MST Hub, whoever can get one to market should clean up.
