Hey people, I currently have a 7970 in my rig and most things run quite nicely. I've found this and have wondered if this (GT 440) is worth getting to have as a dedicated Physx card in my system.

Will it slow my 7970 down tho?
Will it be fast enough to do the Physx?

Try google it!

I once saw (absolutly no idea where...) a review about one using 2xGTX580 +Physx. And then 2xGTX580 +GTS,250 for Physx. Which caused heavy FPS drops! Not sure how that would work with AMD Cards... But if you activate Physx yout get 10-30% performance drop! Even with am additional gt440 for physx! I'm kinda sure of that.

I have seen that review as well. I believe it was a video Linus from NCIX made. Maybe you can search at his youtube channel.

I beleive you may be interested in this http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/14358/tweak-nvidia-physx-ati-cards

It is possible to run physx on an nvidia card while rendering the game on your AMD card, and I have found that I do get a performance improvement in my games, even a 8800GTS can perform PhysX calculations faster than an intel i7 @ 4ghz.

I have been using a 250gts for physx to go along with my 5970 for eyefinity for over 2yrs now.

Go here for the info on how to do it and the mod itself. Been using it for long time now. Virus scanner might set it off but it it is not a virus.

Not sure how fast a 440 is but the 250gts does just fine in games like mafia 2/ batman games/ graw1/2 and all others.

Does not slow down the main card at all. Just make sure you have space for the 7970 to get air.

Good luck!

PS: Do NOT plug any monitors into the nvidia card!

Would this card be ok for this setup? E.g. just to use as dedicated Physx?

That wouldn't be enough tbh. You would want a 550 or better.

EDIT: Here is a good video on the subject.

EDIT2: Here is a review I did with my 9600 GT for Phsyx.
