April 1 is the anniversary date of the launch of NTHUSIM. To celebrate NTHUSIM's birthday there has been a website update and the latest version of NTHUSIM is now available. 3.0 offers a redesigned interface and adds in a much requested feature -- edge blending! :)

Along with a new version of the pre-warping utility comes website upgrades. The website upgrades are a work in progress, so let the NTHUSIM staff know what you'd like added or changed.

NTHUSIM 3.0 can be downloaded by logging into the NTHUSIM.com website. Enjoy! :cheers

The site looks good and smells of a Drupal framework. ;)
1 suggestion, the "share your setup!" section, there is 1-12, might it be worth highlighting which number is currently being shown? :)

N I C E !!!

It took a while to verify for me. Since it is April fool`s day I initially thought it is too good to be true. On the other hand, why would a company mock about its own shortcommings? Now they turned it into a strong selling point. Here I come (when money for the whole setup comes, too ;)

Best news for the week for sure. I`m quite sure it is the right step for Immersaview. Though it will still last several years before a multi projector screen setup can be found in "a larger part of mass market". In the end Immersaview might end up selling a lot more licences in the future.

You guys need to market your product better. Basicly you have to show such setups to a greater audience. There should be no major consumer and gamer show/fairy without a display of your product in ACTION. --> PAX, GamesCom, E3, GDC

I know you are already taking part but not as regularly. Don`t wait for customers :hide to look for solutions, show them :nudgenudge what immersion can be achieved !!

For the most part I agree with you would wrote. A lot of the issue is Immersaview is an Australian company. That means it's hard for them to properly present a screen setup at major North American events because of the expense involved merely transporting such a setup half way around the world. That's where I come in lately. I can setup my portable screen for demos in the US. Someone just needs to cover my expenses to do it.

The addition of edge blending was a long time coming. The main issue was how to implement it so it didn't compete with their professional/military software lines. I think what they came up with works quite well. For awhile I personally though that NTHUSIM simply wouldn't get edge blending, but IMHO I think the knock-offs that entered into the marketplace were part of the reason why it did get implemented. I have mixed feelings about the competing products, but one thing that I firmly believe in is competition keeps things constantly evolving and improving. You have to out-do the competition or die as an obsolete product.

Immersaview took a serious risk by being the first to cater to the consumer market. They were directly answerable to all their clients under service contract with their professional lines. They often have to weed out and watch for commercial/professional users that want to only pick up the non-commercial licensed NTHUSIM. I think most of the bumpy ride is over with though getting through the first year and establishing a consumer brand name.

There's something I've always wondered about with edge blending: how much of an overlap would it take to make it look seemless?

With NTHUSIM it's a fixed 15% to keep things simple.

So basically, the screen area "lost" to each overlap is equivalent to 15% of one projector? IE with 3 projectors with a horizantal resolution of 1280, you'd lose 192 pixels to each overlap for a total horizontal resolution of 3456?

Two other quick questions:
1)What happens to the HUD in an edge blended setup? I imagine the unusual resolution could fool some games that rely on detecting a 3x1L setup for HUD centering.
2)What's the best way to handle games that don't support eyefinity/surround on such a setup?

The resolutions are still the standard ones -- 3072x768, 3840x720 and 5760x1080. If it works in Eyefinity/Surround, it works in Eyefinity/Surround NTHUSIM Plus. there is no need to make special custom resolutions.

Everything is tied to the functionality of Eyefinity/Surround. If it works in Eyefinity/Surround, it works with Eyefinity/Surround projection. At issue is only a difference in display type -- LCD vs projector. I suppose you could disable Eyefinity/Surround and set the center projector as primary display and have a special NTHUSIM configuration profile for it to be used with fixed 5:4 and 16:9 aspect ratio games. I already do something similar to this for 2.39:1 aspect ratio movies and VLC but still using triple projection but custom aspect ratio correction. NTHUSIM Plus allows for save and load of profiles though the tools menu. Just save your triple projection profile as triple.ntb and your single projection profile as single.ntb and swap them as needed.
