I searched in the hope that this topic had already been brought up, but nothing showed. So here goes: I have a DisplayPort on my monitor (3x 24" Dell U2410), and a Mini Displayport on my ATI HD6970. Will I need an active DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable/converter to take advantage of ATI Eyefinity, or does that only apply if you're going from DVI/HDMI/VGA to Mini-DisplayPort?

This is the cable I plan to use > http://us.startech.com/product/MDP2DPMM3-3foot-Mini-DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort-Adapter-Cable-Male-to-Male

Tell me if I'm being a massive idiot, and that there's no such thing as active/passive Displayport to Mini Displayport cables.

I figured that 6970's would come with a MiniDP->DP dongle adapter thingy.

If you are dealing with DP only, there is no need for active or passive.

AFAIK they are pin for pin compatible with regular DP cables http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_DisplayPort, so what you would need is either male-to-male or a adapter. Whichever is cheaper I guess would be the best option.

I figured it would come with one, but instead it only came with DVI to VGA dongle—anyone still using those? Well, thanks for the confirmation. I was 99.5% sure that was the case, but just had to be certain.

All Day Questions about Displayport Adapters :-(

Fakt 1: The new Displayport Adapters are without an exteral Powercable so they look like an normal Displayport Adpater but they can´t work for Eyefinity !!!!!!!
Fakt 2 : AMD´s Supprted List is here http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx look and you find all you must know about it

Also the New Adapters from XFX Club3D or Powercolor work fine

But not these 5-10$ Adapters they are to get an Notebook/Netbook (Spezial with Mini Displayport like the MacBook Air) on Display

I Hope that´s all you need , and look the other 500 Thread´s about this

You really didn't read my post did you? I wasn't looking for a DVI/VGA to Displayport Adapter, I was looking for Mini Displayport to Displayport. Also, I searched for this topic extensively and nothing showed up besides DVI/VGA to display port stuff, so don't give me crap about there being 500 threads covering this already. Anyhow, it doesn't matter anymore; I bought the cable I posted earlier in the thread and it worked just fine.

Well, I just ordered 3x Dell U2211H's that will be here Monday. I also got 2 DVI cables to use for 2 of the monitors. I'm running 2x 6870's in CF, so I'll be needing to connect the miniDP from the 6870 to a monitor as well...

I ordered 2 of these (2 just because/in case I wanted/needed a 2nd):
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606&p_id=6007&seq=1&format=2

I'll let you know how they work after I try them. I'm pretty sure that's all you'll need to go from a miniDP to DP connection. I just hope the cables get here Monday as well... If I get the monitors, but don't have the DP cables that'll suck. The cables shipped out on the 3rd, my monitors didn't ship out til the 6th.

That cable works fine.
