I'm wonder if there are any issues with the active adapters available at this point.

I'm thinking of going Eyefinity in the very near future and have not purchased my monitors yet...

At this point, I think I've narrowed it down the the Dell U2311H, and the Asus VH236H.

It will sort of depend on my budget, and whether I can haggle with Dell to get a decent price, or they go on sale again. If I can get the Dells for $240 each, I'd opt for that, but otherwise, I think I'd have to go with the Asus.

The Dell has native DP built in, whereas the Asus does not, so this is another variable I need to consider before purchase.

So, I want to know if the DVI -> DP adapters out now have any issues. I've heard of people have monitors dropping out, flicking issues, etc with adapters use. If it's still a problem, then I'll probably just want to hold out and get a monitor with native DP, but otherwise, I think I'd be tempted to go with the cheaper solution.

The single link adapters are flawless (except being single link). Those can be had for about $30.

And you only need one of them for the central monitor, and can use DVI for the two side monitors, correct? One thing that kind of suck is I have 2x 6870's and they've gone to mini Displayport, so I'd have to get a DP -> DVI single link active adapter, and a mini Displayport to Displayport adapter as well.

Why dont you just get a mini-dp to SL-DVI-D ?

No need for a mini-dp > dp cable. ;)

After seeing this guy's post in the "test solution for flickering" thread, I'm somewhat hesitant to go with the mini DP -> DVI adapter:

Since my upgrade to the Gigabyte HD 6870, I've tried the ACCELL ACTIVE Mini DisplayPort to DVI Single Link adapter and cannot even get a screen at all. I've tried with the DP connected monitor as the ONLY one connected. It doesn't even show a display at POST.

However, CCC detects that it's connected and I can even go through all the steps to create a 3x1 Group and even get a prompt for Bezel Compensation. The power indication light on the monitor glows properly indicating that the monitor is getting some kind of signal. If I Disable the monitor there's a "No Signal" message on screen.

BUT, I cannot even access the OSD Menu of the monitor. I get nothing else at all.

I've written Gigabyte and ACCELL as well as have given Amazon.com a heads up on this issue. (That's where I bought the adapter from.) It's been over 48 hours since I emailed them and only Amazon has responded.

This particular adapter is "ATI Certified" per a sticker on the box and has the correct FW revision per a sticker on the adapter.

My PSU is a 1000W unit and since the adapter plugs only into the MiniDisplayPort on the video card -- which is powered by TWO Six-pin connections, I have to assume that it's getting enough power. But, as stated, it doesn't even POST when it's the only one connected at start up.

Am very eager to get my Eyefinity back to working.

As far as I know, ACCELL's the only one that has an Active Single Link mini DP -> DVI adapter that I've seen... I have heard good things about the Sapphire DP -> DVI adapter, so I guess I could still get a cheap mini DP -> DP adapter from Monoprice and get the Sapphire adapter.

Looks like these adapters still aren't flawless...

The above adaptors should work fine, the adaptors mentioned in the other thread where mostly DualLink DVI active adaptors... the ones posted above are SingleLink DVI active adaptors which have also been certified to work by ATI.
I have one of the saphire duallink adaptors myself however this had its own number of issues before I was able to get it working.
I use a mini-dp to dp adaptor then use the saphire adaptor with the the usb powered from a USB main adaptor like a HTC charger, or a USB Y splitter cable that allows me to plug 2 cables into the pc and 1 into the adaptor so that it is provided with enough power.

BTW if you are trying to quote someone, please use the

Should work, but that guy is saying with his Gigabyte 6870 (same manufacturer and cards I have in CF) and that Single Link ACCELL adapter, he couldn't even get an image to show on his display, that kind of concerns me.

Well most shops will allow you to reutn the cable if it does not work for you as the product is not function as advertised.
If you dont wish to try, then just use the VGA adaptors which work 100% for everyone.

I'm the guy being quoted above.

And, I've since returned the Gigabyte HD 6870 and now have an XFX HD 6870. I've also purchased the Sapphire DP-DVI ACTIVE adapter and STILL cannot get even a display on my monitor. Period. The only way I've had success is to use a DP->VGA adapter made by Monster and it works fine with a minor problem at this point.

Due to my good relationship with people in contact with [ATI] AMD, my experience with these adapters is to be reviewed by techs at AMD. So far, I've not had ANY [of three] ACCELL adapters work on my setup. Not only that, but my report to ACCELL about the newest problem has been completely ignored now for over a month. So, ACCELL is on my black-list of companies to avoid since they have no interest or intention of attempting to help with this.

What I need to pin down...and so far have been unable to do so...is to see if the problem with these adapters is with my particular ViewSonic monitors perhaps not supporting a Single-Link connection. Maybe they require a Dual-Link, but I can't seem to get that determination made for certain. What I DO know is that there IS a live signal to the monitor when using the adapter. It just doesn't produce an image.

Now, the "minor problem" I have with the current working DP->VGA adapter is that there's a noticeable "scrolling" going on. The image itself doesn't scroll, but rather, it's like it's getting a weak signal and there's a vertical movement that creates some slight color difference. Since I've connected the DP monitor to the right side, it's only in my peripheral vision and doesn't distract much at all during gaming. But, there is no loss of the screen image at all.

So, my answer to the question about the adapters is that I'd advise staying away from the ACCELL ones no matter what. From my reading and research, Sapphire's are much more dependable -- even though the one I have still doesn't do the job.

If I can get my hands on another LCD made by someone other than ViewSonic, I'd like to test my theory that my particular problem may be due to the monitors I'm using instead of the video card and/or the adapters. But, that will likely have to wait for sometime after the first of the year. The only other LCD monitor I do have here doesn't have a DVI port.
