I smell the dirt, the flavors, the stink of humans. It violates my nose and teases my focus. Of no concern. I cradle the bracer with my free hand. Soon. Soon, it will be. He stops, unawares. Ripe. Exposed. I gather my nerve and prepare to...Connection to server lost. Trying to reconnect and reload last checkpoint.

Could you elaborate on these things?

all aspect ratios wider than 16:9 use a combination of Hor + behavior and pillarboxing.

pillarboxed content in aspect ratios wider than 16:9.

Potentially certified, I think. It mainly depends how much "pillarboxed content" surround mode has.

All cut scenes are pboxed. The main menu and everything related to it is pboxed. When you start or load a game the loading screen will change from pboxed to Hor + while loading. Once in-game the "menus" (options, map, inventory, etc.) have a rendered background which allows them to be Hor +. I cannot think of anything that pboxes in-game that is not part of a cutscene.

Now if you wan't to have a debate about whether a minimum standard of quality for cut-scenes should be required to for pboxing rendered content and still have it be acceptable on wide displays then I would be willing to discuss it with you but I think that is outside the scope of this grading system.

Don't you mean acceptable on surround setups? Or is there also pillarboxing in widescreen that your screenshots don't demonstrate?

Both, my comment was in general.

But in the case of AC2, there is only pboxing with aspect ratios wider than 16:9.

So, the following statements are true then?

* No pillarboxing in widescreen
* Gameplay in surround is strictly hor +

Then it's certified.

If by widescreen you mean 16:9 and narrower then yes.

* Gameplay in surround is strictly hor +

If by gameplay you mean everything but the cutscenes then yes. **

EDIT - ** - Also some pboxed 16:9 fmvs.

I think anytime there's a fixed camera it becomes pillarboxed in surround. There are a few acrobatic sequences in the dungeons where they fix the camera for you and it becomes pillarboxed. They're very rare though.

If this is true I would call it a blemish... the fixed camera angles happen relatively often in the acrobatic challenges of the crypts, tombs and such.

A game can have surround-specific blemishes and still be certified.
