Hi everyone,

I'm Julien Barnoin, lead programmer of Papo & Yo from Minority.

I've been porting our PS3 game to the PC in the recent months, and I just wanted to say this site has been a great resource in researching how to get things right so everyone can enjoy our game. So, thanks !

Papo & Yo is not necessarily the kind of game where multi-monitor is that important to the experience, but I did want to make sure that if people want to play that way, it works and works well. That's the PC way, right? Support everything and let people decide :)

I didn't personally have a 3 monitor setup, but seeing that many games failed to support this correctly, I set up my work machine with Eyefinity so I could check (I love it by the way !). Anyway, I fixed all the issues that I could find so that the game is enjoyable with 3 monitors and we even did some playtests that way. Hope it works for you guys if you try it !

Workstation

The game will be out on Steam in a few days, so if you get it and I missed anything to support your setup, let me know and I'll look into it.
We're a small developer so we can't really test every possible setup, but we'll do our best.

Thanks all,
Julien Barnoin

Julien,

Awesome! Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad we could help. And a game with perfect triple-wide support, for me, changes the status of the game from "maybe I'll buy it, and if I do, maybe I'll play it casually at some point on my TV with a controller" to "I'll almost definitely buy this game and if I do, I'll sit down and play it like a proper game in full".

It doesn't even seem like a game which would normally have support like this, so myself and the rest of the community here, I'm sure, definitely applauds the effort! You've got yourself a customer, looking forward to seeing it on Steam!

Also, even as a smaller developer, "that wasn't so hard, was it?" ;) We're all looking forward to more developers getting on board with making use of the extra horsepower a PC has over a last-gen console.

Also, straighten out those monitors to minimize the space between the bezels. :P

Ha ha, I know it's probably not your typical multi-monitor game.
I just tried it one day for fun and thought it looked cool, so I decided to support it!

And no, it wasn't too bad; the main challenge was making sure you don't see through walls all the time if you get your camera too close to them with a very wide FOV.
[ :ugeek: - I had to make the rendering near-plane closer to the camera depending on aspect ratio to compensate for that without losing depth precision unnecessarily on 16:9 setups; as a result you might see slightly more z-fighting in some specific places when playing with 3 monitors, but things look fine in most instances. ]

As for the bezels, I do play with bezel compensation properly set up ! But yeah, the monitors sure look off, I'll have to do something about that :)

That's very cool Julien!

Be proud to know that you will have achieved what even some of the big mainstream developers could/would not. I'm always keen to buy and try new games that support surround properly. I'll keep an eye out for it on Steam and we'll get a Detailed Report done on it. :rockout:

:triplewide:

Support our community and we will support you! Like Strike Suit Zero, this game wasn't even on my radar til I heard about it here. I'll definitely be checking you out. Thanks for showing us some love!

So cool! glad at least one developer reads WSGF, yes we are a niche market, I can't speak for others but I'll happily pay for games with full support or pay that little bit more for fully supported game.

Will check this out...

Personally, this game was already on my to-do list, but now I'll probably preorder it, as opposed to waiting for a sale.

Thanks for supporting us!

Sometimes I feel like indie games have better multiscreen support than AAA titles. It doesn't make sense, but thank you for being aware of the right way to do PC gaming, and for providing support to our community. Sometimes it's us that are the ones making it possible to play a game, so thank you for taking that awesome weight off our shoulders. That gives us more time to play and less time fiddling with ini files and registry hacks.

Also, please don't forget us niche 5x1P people. ;) Though, honestly, if you support 16:9 and 3x1L, 5x1P is probably going to be in there.

Thanks a ton for posting here, and for supporting multi-monitor. I'm really glad to know that the site was helpful. I will say I don't understand the statement "your typical multi-monitor game". Every game should be multi-monitor!!! ;-)
