I've been looking for a good single screen substitute to my triple screen surround/eyefinity setup, but 21:9 is just not wide enough for me.

Will the upcoming 32:9, double-wide, 49" and 3840 x 1080 display panels from Samsung do the trick?

http://www.techspot.com/news/68829-samsung-massive-double-wide-display-panels-set-production.html

I think it might do for me! It will get really close to the width of my three 22" monitors (around 125cm). But the resolution is still only 2 times 1920px wide, so I'll be actually chopping off half of a monitor on each side.

What are your thoughts?

I'm really looking forward to this Monitor size.

Can't say anything about it now, but i'll certainly read all the tests and maybe even buy one for myself for testing.

Let's hope them keeping the price in check. If it is in between 1.000€ and 1.200€, I'll probably go for it. Much more than that and I'll tab out.

I play at 7680x1440. The 3840 is fine but the 1080 is not enough height. I had 3x 1680x1050mitors in 2010. I would need 1440 height to begin thinking about this monitor. 1600 would be better but then the aspect ratio would be weird. If they are going fantasy 5040x1600 GSYNC and HDR! I have set aside 2 grand for my next monitor. I am going to get the right one. I like my surround but it does get to be a pain in the A-- when you update drivers etc. I oc my monitors to 75hz from 60. Anything more than 75 and the monitors seem to get a little wonky.

Some guy on reddit has pics and screenies: https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemaste ... thiccness/
That's a ludicrous bezel-free space to game on, but at "only" 900$ you have to wonder what sort of build quality and dead pixel & RMA policies you'll have to deal with...

In the end it's just "two" 1080p panels, doesn't have freesync or any fancy tech, VA panel not IPS, "aimed for professional" probably means it will be just 60 Hz.

Sadly i'm using an old R9-290 which has Displayport 1.2 so it's limited to 126hz (120hz but had to use Toasty's CRU) with 10bit. There is also a 600khz Pixelclock limit which results in 132hz limit for the GPU itself.
But Freesync 2.0 is working fine.

The low resolution of 3840x1080 on 49" is a HUGE issue... it looks absolutly horrible in Desktop mode. In games it's not that obvious anymore. But the Letters/text in the browser are really bad.

Games are just Awesome. This really is a Replacement for Eyefinity/Surround!

So you weren't bluffing... Noice
As I'm moving away from 3x 16:9 myself and plunging into triple Ultrawide, I can see how a single humongous panel like this is a valid alternative to consider. Just another set of pros and cons. The MegaWide era is upon us, gon' be fun !
