Converting my war gaming PC to an office productivity workhorse. (Dual HD 6970, No Crossfire, 2x Vertical 1080P 24", 3x Horizontal 1080P 24", 1x 27" Auria 2560x1440, 1x 46" LCD off screen). The CRT is a different PC.

The back of the AMD HD 6970 have two DVI, one HDMI, and two Mini DisplayPorts. So as long as you don't SLI them together, you can put up to 5 on each one, though I think you can only get up to 4 on each card.
The reason being that there are 3 regular sourced outputs (the 2x DVI and one HDMI), and the card can ounly output 2 non Mini DisplayPorts at a time.
I'm able to get 7 outputs from my two 6970s, and I think the max would be 8 until the DisplayPort MST standard comes out. I think I'm fine with 7 for now.
