Post subject:  3rd Monitor Help ATI Radeon 6970

Hey Guys,

So i recently bought a 3rd monitor for my set up, but i've been having issues with it.

So my current set up is
Main Monitor (center) Connected via Hdmi
2nd Monitor (right) Connected via DVI (using Vga > DVI-I adapter)

now here's the bitch,

3rd Monitor (left) Connected via minidp (using Vga > Dvi adapter, then Dvi > minidp adapter)

I've made sure that the adapter is an "active adapter", Someone said maybe there werent enough pins on the dvi adapter but heres the thing it only seems to detect on windows using DVI-A adapters, Windows will not detected a third monitor is I attempt to connect the monitor using a DVI-I adapter.

Am I doing something wrong? What do you guys think?

I'm going to guess the double adapter is messing things up.
What happens when you only connect that third monitor?
Both with your current adaptered (not a real word, i know :P) cables and with only the active dvi > dp adapter?

:welcome

Hi, your issue is with the mini-DP to DVI adaptor, this adaptor although active will only send a digital signal, no analog signal is carried via the cable as such a DVI-I/DVI-A adaptor will not work, as these simply strip the analog signal from a dvi output and convert the pins to VGA.

What you need is a mini-DP to VGA adaptor, all DP/mini-DP to VGA adaptors are active.

Replace your mini-dp adaptor with a vga one and you should be good.

Also would it work if i just got a straight HDMI to minidp cable? ast here is a HDMI input at the back of the 3rd monitor?

That max might be due to your VGA signal. What monitors are you using. The easiest solution would be to use the DVI and then 2x Mini-DP with a Mini-DP > DVI Active Adapter.

This is what I've used - http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-006B ... 004071ZXA/

Ahh silly me I have forgotten to mention that i bought a HDMI to dvi cable and then from there have a dvi > minidp for my 3rd monitor,
I've heard somewhere where people need to find and download a .inf file? but i'm not sure where that goes.
